Well made a phone call today to MAC for a repair kit for my MR5 ratchet (one of the early ones that have the screws going through the face like the current ones have) and they are sending it to me at no cost (which is sweet).

The thing they informed me on was I was telling tech support that I have two MR5 ratchets, one with the screws going through the face, the other with the screws going through the plate.. Well come to find out the guy told me that they discontinued the old style screws through the plate rebuild kit so if it needs one as well, they will just give me a brand new one (I think it because they stopped making the screws for it, but I maybe wrong since the rest of the internals looks the same)...

So for those of you who plan on keeping the vintage MAC ratchets alive like me, dont beat the **** out of them unless you want a new one!

The plate is part of the rebuild kit so it'll be more than just the screws. Though if the gear and pawl interchange you'll still be able to rebuild unless the plate is worn. If you're able I'd be interested in seeing some pictures of your old plate thru' screws ratchet. I've never seen one.

I sent in an old mac round head long flex ratchet and got back an xrr11fpa. The soft handle (the one i sent in was not a soft handle) started coming loose and slipping around within a few days. I'm still kinda mad.

NGK22R,

Do you know the approximate date range for the old style MR5 ratchet?

wafrederick,

Thanks for checking the date. You don't happen to know about when this ratchet was replaced with another model, do you?

Just so you know, I'm not lazy, I just don't have any MAC catalogs.

Thanks again.

Thanks wafrederick, awsome detective work.

So that ratchet was in production from at least 1977 to at least 1988, perhaps longer.

wafrederick,

Thanks for checking. I envy your Mac catalog collection. Catalogs are so useful for tracking down tools and dating tools.

odd about that quote; it sounds exactly like something that would fall out of my ex-wife's mouff (yes, spelled correctly-Lol)
