The Mac Tools monthly flyer that came out Monday has the 13 piece RBRT torx set for $40 off at $135.99. Set item number is ST13RBRT. Online price is still regular, but you can phone them for the discounted price.
Sat on the phone for 25 min waiting to spend my 135 today before I had to hang up....man, I wish Proto had the Torx RBRT set available, or even better, someone other than MAC had the patent. Freaking love the hex versions, got them from Zoro under the Proto label.
MAC just ***** availability, almost as bad as Cornwell!
Similar experience here. Trying to by a non-sale hex RBRT set I needed and the website was freaking out. Tried the phone but gave up after 10-15 minutes.
Don't bother. I have wasted about 2 hours of my life so far on hold with MAC, a min of 30 min per call. My order has been flagged as "fraudlent" twice now, even AFTER I talked to them today.
I work at a tech school and apparently their system freaks out because I am trying to send it to my house...or something, not even their CS humans can do anything. Funny thing is I had no idea they even had me in their system....a student has been battling them for a year to get in the student discount program, I guess that's how they got me in it.
The company is AWFUL....can't wait until VIM or whoever makes their RBRT stuff starts selling it themselves.
They have the RBRT hex available as Proto advance hex, but they are hard to find.
5 minute phone call with a very friendly CSR and I have a set on the way. No drama. Thanks OP.
Our MAC dealer had a promo on the impact RBRT hex set a while ago and one of his selling points was that they work on Torx as well. Can anyone say if the Torx work as well as the hex?

I recently bought the same Proto sets and they also fit torx screws perfectly, at least the ones I've run into so far (way less use in equipment than automotive).
Bought from ZORO. Listed as hex bit, but work on Torx as well. What is the part# for the Proto RBRT torx sets?

Dan,Here are some answers to some questions I see here.
RBRT Hex is not designed to work on Torx fasteners, you might get luck some times, but they can chew out the center of a Torx fastener out. The RBRT Torx design is awesome, and all RBRT tools are designed to be used first to prevent damaging the fastener, but the design will remove damaged fasteners too.
Proto only carries the RBRT design in 3 Hex sets. 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 sets.
RBRT was launched into Proto to service the massive industrial Hex market.
No RBRT Torx is available thru Proto.
Thanks,
Dan.
I like the fact that they work in both directions. There are times when reusing the original bolt is the only option to get something back on the road...rare, but it happens. Best practice to get a replacement, but......Dan,
Just a suggestion, on your promotional ford bed bolt YouTube video, it would have been much more realistic if the test was done "removing" the fastener, since that is the whole point of this tool. I really didnt see the point of tightening it.
I understand how it works.I appreciate your input. However, with Torx Plus, the way that profile fits and engages, right or left(tight or loose) works the same. They are not directional. In the demo, it is a lot easier to pull on the torque wrench than to push it. The end result would be the same either direction. I hope that explained my thoughts process on it, sometimes it’s a jumbled mess in there! Lol!
