damn that is a nice set, hopefully they are magnetic.

have you given mac a call?

No. I just thought someone here may know and it seems hit and miss for MAC as far as COO goes. I have their large magnetic extension set, and while quite nice, it seems like it was too inexpensive to be made here in the US. I was thinking that may be the case with the set I linked here as well. :dunno:

I figured. I mean it doesn't mean it's not a nice set, but IMO the price should more reflect where it's made.

the price does reflect where its made, for a truck brand anyway. If they were USA made that set would be $300-$400.

Keep in mind regular USA spark plug sockets off the truck are about $40-$50 each and universals/extra deeps run closer to $60.

I know how much they are, and I kind of agree with you, but I still think they are price similar to what Craftsman USA would be if they made the same thing. Obviously I don't know exactly what their markup is, but it seems like could still make money at about $60 for that set. I could be totally wrong though heh.

I guess my math works like this. Snap on vs. Blue Point is normally 5-6 times the price for a SO tool vs. a similar BP tool. The MAC overseas stuff is about 1/3 the price of similar US made stuff. At any rate, they aren't necessarily overpriced by a ton, but to me they are basically nice rebranded China tools. Another way to look at it is say SO's 117 piece tap/die set vs. the Irwin/Hansen set. Same exact set, but nearly twice the price.

Let's face it, all the truck brands are ridiculously expensive, but it hurts less when they are made here rather than overseas lol! FWIW, I probably will buy this set anyways regardless of all of my ranting hehe!

Just curious when would you need the extra deep plug sockets? Is that a ford 5.4 thing or is there some scenario when a regular socket and an extension wont work?

Going slightly OT here but only the BP sets are identical, the ones rebranded Snap-On aren't. While the sizes and layouts are the same as Irwin Snap-On is the only one with adjustable dies. They must be forking out extra cash to get Irwin to do it only for them. I couldn't even find Irwin sets with adjustable dies in metric.

I agree for 99% of the products they sell but these spark plug sockets really aren't priced too far out of line. If the exact same set was available on Amazon or Tooltopia I suspect it would run about $75-$80 so you're wallet isn't taking quite the same reaming compared to a basic socket set where the price difference truly is 6-8x as much. I feel the same way about this Matco set (also very nice, also imported)

You can almost make the same set above with KD branded versions off the internet but it would cost you about $70 and be 1 socket less.

My co-worker bought that set from MAC and the chrome is terrible. YMMV.
