Then you say the Snappy man offers you 5 grand on a $4000 box. I know Snap-On gives good on trade in but you must have the Snap-On man of the year.

Could be wrong, I don't know.

5 Grand credit toward an $8000 (list) box doesnt seem out of the realm of possability to me. If there is any haggle room, its certainly on the boxes. More so if its something the dealer got on promotion. Perhaps he had it stashed away from some good deal, heard about the OP's issues and thought it the oppertune time to pull it out.

Would you give $5000 for a broke $4000 box? I know I wouldn't.

I would negotiate and try to get your money back or get a Macsimizer for even trade.

So......if I go buy a Cobalt and need a couple of warranty repairs GM should GIVE me a new Cadillac Escalade for the same money?.....Hell of a deal if you can get it.

im not expecting an even swap for a macsimizer box, i offered to kick in the extra money so i can get a differant model seeing ive had bad luck with the tech series. i doubt im the only person with a mac tools box issue. i read tons of other posts on here about mac having issues

he said he had the triple bank, its over 5 grand new, not 4. And as far as what i'd do if i were a dealer, that would depend on my connections and how many people on my route want a used box. Say the SO dealer paid 5k for the KRL. OP pays 2900 cash and if he can unload the practically brand new Tech box for 3500 with a frame defect [far from impossible] thats 6400 netting $1400 in profit, not bad for a days work.

On an aside, if someone had an agenda, i'd think the tools would be a better target as there probably arent many people out there shopping in the $5000+ tool box range. Though MAC seems to be doing plenty of damage to themselves with the imports and discontinuing of hard line tools. Based off what people got here from exchanging things like wrenches and ratchets i know i wouldnt touch MAC with a ten foot pole. It was damning for MAC when they started giving people Taiwan tools for their American stuff, and then the closing of the Sabina plant. I think most here have pretty much already wrote them off.

Personally, No. But if I was a snap on dealer and new someone spent 5000 on a box and was not happy with it or the company that makes it, Yes. Not sure what it costs snap on to make a box but I would guess they aren't loosing money at 2900 dollars. And they are gaining a customer that will probably be very loyal, I know I would if the company is going to stand behind products like that and go out of their way to fix another companies problem. And snap on gets the free publicity on here and the free bad mouthing of a competitor. I would be willing to bet this thread alone has influenced some on not buying mac and buying snap on. It's pretty simple business practice, word of mouth is everything.

My KRL was a great box. I know a lot of people have issues w/MAC, I used to buy a few things because I liked the dealer. As of the last several yrs, not really impressed w/there stuff. I have since changed Dealerships and no longer have a MAC guy, only S/O, and that`s fine w/me. I think you`ll be happy after trading.

That really does ****. I have a tech 1000 and am happy with it and confident that a problem like that would be taken care of quickly with my MAC dealer and regional manager. However, I looked at a new snappy box on the truck last week that is 6 inches longer and taller than mine and i have to say it is a far better box. More expensive but if i was in your shoes i'd ditch the MAC with a quickness.

Did Mac ever admit to you that the first box to fail contained a structural defect? What did the various Mac people attribute the failure to? Why not e-mail this thread to the same mac people who jumped in on this thread last time?

I do wonder if you threw up your website, how long it would take other owners of the same box to chime in, assuming this is a problem that plagues this model.

Hell, are you sure they didn't fix your old box, repaint it and give it back to you? Or if you did get a new box, I wonder if it was made at the same time as the old one? Maybe it's not the series of box itself that has the problem, but the production run?

That's a shame since [my] Mac dealer (whom has ben absent for 6 weeks now), was always gpassively "pushing" a Tech1000 on me when I was in my Snap On debockle and needed to get out because of my previous dealer issues.
He kept saying how well built they are and he actually said they're the best in the industry seeing as they supply their own ball bearing slides and all that jazz.
If it wasn't for Mac's ****** credit tier at that time, I probably woulda bit on one. But, I'm glad I didn't. I picked up a Matco 5S double bank w/ FREE side box deal on promotion last year.
Off topic, but I know there has been a HUGE difference between the previous Snap On 13 drawer Heritage double bank & Classic 78's I had compared to this Matco. My 5S blows them out of the water. I don't have much knowledge of a Master series KRL, but I'm sure that's really where you start to see S/O's box quality.

as far as mac saying why the box broke, they didnt...just sent a new box the first time.
the quality is really poor, the powder coating is very orange peelish and i can see every weld clearly thats how i know the welds are breaking again. like i said within the first few weeks with the replacmeent box all the mac emblems and letters fell off. but just recieved an email from MAC stating he has spoke to 2 out of the 3 people he needs to speek about a resolution but he is on vacation next week and i wont hear from him till the first week of april probably with a resolution if they can come up with one. they keep pushing it back and back so looks like ill be trading it this week.....ugg didnt really want to spend another 2900
