I previously posted about looking for a used Snap On or Mac box for around $1,000. I found a new Tech 1000 box and the owner was asking for $1800 and told me he wouldn't accept anything less than $1500, but after a month and a half told me he would accept my offer of $1,000. Do you think the Tech 1000 is a good box and worth $1,000 or should I reconsider?

I think a Tech 1000 in good shape is a good buy for $1000

However as I have posted in the past if the box is "new" I would make them show that it was paid in full. It is not uncommon for people to sell boxes where they still owe MAC or the local tool guy money on the box.

X2. Get the serial number and call MAC to make sure it's paid for if the owner can't provide proof it is paid off.

I am getting the serial number.

I think I actually like the SO KRL761 better than the Tech1000, but I haven't found many 761's nor have I found them for $1,000. I seem to find a good amount of KRA's cheap, but I am purchasing this box to last me a long time so I don't want too little quality otherwise I would just pick up a HF or Cman box.

My MAC guy gave me a deal on a brand new Tech 1000 for $2100. Neon green with black handles. :) He ordered it at the tool fair, and he is throwing in a 58" pry bar to match. I haven't gotten either, they come in the week of Valentines day.

We just sold a KRL761 last week, and got $1650 for it. I think unless you find a a VERY motivated seller, you will need to increase your budget if you want one of these in good condition.

Also, it is only recently that the KRA's started coming with roller slides. They are also generally shallower.
