Mac Tool Box Key

I purchased an awesone mac toolbox with three key locks. The lock for the storage door was not provided to me. Any Ideas? How can I reach a Mac tool rep? Or should I try mac customer service?? Thx

Take the lock off and take it to a locksmith. I had a new key made in about 5 min for a box i bought.

If the lock is the same as the ones you do have a key for take one of them along with the number stamped on the lock to a real locksmith. A good pro locksmith should be able to look up the key cuts from the code number if the lock can be identified. Not all locksmiths have access to all the codes so you may to hunt around a bit.

You might try taking the cabinet some locksmiths can bump the lock and make a key that way. Again, you need a real pro to do that.

Might be cheaper and easier to drill out the lock and buy a replacement.

My Mac boxs are older and I got the number off the lock cylinders and a locksmith cut some keys for me from the codes he found in the books.

Depends on the locks. Craftsman locks run just a bit more than that for three.
The big lock in my Craftsman Industrial cost about 40 bucks from a locksmith. I got a key from Waterloo a lot cheaper.
Locks in my Torin boxes, are cheaper than Craftsman.
Locks in a Matco are way more expensive.
Never needed to buy a Snap-On or Mac lock. The Mac economizer line the lock looks pretty cheap to buy.

before you run to your local locksmith and try for 3 replacements, look at the front of the lock, if theres numbers you dont have to take it out at all, just take the number with you. they will be able to cut a key from the number. if for some reason they tell you they cannot, send me a message and ill find you keys. if theres no number than yes, the lock needs to come out and be brought to a shop. sometimes its not as easy as just swapping out the cylinders in a tool box with a regular cam lock (what you would get if you went to a locksmith for replacements) i have only been able to swap out locks on a tool box with regular cam locks 2 times. most of the ones ive seen have a special tailpiece thats pressed on and connects to linkage that locks all the drawers yada yada... hope this helped some, and let me know if you need a hand

No locksmith in town could get me a replacement for an old Matco I have. Finally at the last one I visited he "felt" the inside of the cylinder a few times with a pick, and grinded one right there on the spot. He had the job done right away. I didn't even believe him when he handed me two new keys. None of the other guys could cut a key from the code. I just don't think they wanted to mess with it. I was told that none of the high end toolboxes use standard locks.

Do we have a lock number or numbers yet.

I may have some keys,But I need to know the lock number.

Check all the locks.They are most likley different numbers.

Alot of them started with a 7.

How do I get it off the box? it is locked on a closed cabinet door.

is there a code stamped on the lock if sow you probable wont have to remove the lock. Dues it use a tube key or regular type key? dues your other box keys slide into the lock just don't turn it if sow bring them with you when you go to see your locksmith?

It is a regular flat brass key and yes, my other keys fit into the slot. The keys are double cut.

OK, let me see if I understand this -

My key is confirmed with a #752 on it, which I presume to be the key blank code.

I suppose the CODE & CARD numbers are the cut specific to my lock cylindar?

Took the info to the locksmith today, he confirmed cut code and made me keys. I am hopeful they will work!

I have also lost the key to my MAC side unit. It is probly 15-20 years old. I have taken it to a lock smith and they told me they couldn't come up with the blank or code from the numbers that I had. The # on the cyl is Y211. I contacted MAC. They sent me a form to fill out. I did so and sent it back in and never heard from them again. I saw the MAC tool mans truck today and stopped him. He wanted to sell me a packages of locks. He didn't know how to find the blank # or code #. It is a flat key. Do you know how to get the blank # and code #.Any help is welcomed.

I would take that lock code to another locksmith. I have purchased several used toolboxes without keys and I can tell you some locksmith's are just guys who can copy a key and others others are pro's who know all about the trade and where to find the correct codes. It took me several trips to different storefronts to find a real pro locksmith. Here's a hint, if he tries to sell you a universal lock cylinder, walk away and keep searching.

Thanks Rickster, we only have 2 lock smiths in town. I think both only want to do big jobs or don't know what to do. Even the MAC tool man wanted to sell me a 4 lock set that wouldn't fit.

I have an older Mac 11 drawer box and lost my key. How do I go about getting a replacement key? I contacted Mac and they sent me a complete lock cylinder assembly, but it does not fit my box. Mac has no record of the 3 digit number on my lock cylinder.

I had the same problem. I ended going to Home Depot and getting a cabinet lock. It worked but not like the orig.
