Mac Tool Drill Bit Warranty >Snap On

I came across this on another forum and found this interesring.

Mac tools warrantees out broken drill bits as well as carbide bits, taps, and easy outs. From what I understand Snap On considers these to be consumables.
My SO dealer has warranteed out a broken tap.

Sorry if this has been covered. I break drill bits all the time and use my carbide bits on a daily basis. If this is true I am going to have to track down a dealer.

Can't speak for all those things mentioned above but from what my previous Snap on dealer told me Snap on USED TO warranty Snap on drill bits till people started abusing the lifetime warranty.

My Snap on dealer has also warrantied broken taps.

For the record for anyone that's considering buying tap and die sets I'd recommend buying something other than Snap on. Its been discussed here already and the general opinion is they aren't worth the money.

My Snappy dealer does not warranty broken taps or drill bits but my Mac dealer does. I have been wanting a good tap and die set for a long time now and finally bought a Mac 76 piece set as it is on sale for $285 and comes with a set of tap sockets as well. The dies are not adjustable like the Snap-on ones but who for the most part needs to adjust thread depth when cutting a thread? The Snap-on set is $396 and I couldn't justify the extra expense for something i'd probably never need (adjustable thread depth).

My Mac dealer warranties pretty much everything -- I even get razor blades and triple As for free from him. But I thought I remember him telling me that it wasn't Mac policy, it was his own.

So you might want to double check that.

Alas being consumable (drill bits) snap on will replace any defects new out of the package, but if broken by use they will not replace them, see the following:

The Irwin/Hansen tap and die sets are relabled by the tool trucks. They aren't bad sets but I would rather buy individual taps, dies, and drill bits vs. buying the sets through the tool truck, even if they do warranty.

Believe me, if you break a tap off in the hole warranty is going to be the last thing you care about, getting the tap out is going to be the fun part.

You can buy taps and dies individually on Ebay at pretty good prices. Print out a size chart of what is included in the sets and check it off as you acquire it.

For drill bits, you can get a set of Norsemans on Amazon for $86.

My so guy warranties any drill bit above 1/8" and warranties taps,punches,chisels etc

I think It was the newer sets of drill bits from Mac that came out maybe 2 Years ago or so that are lifetime warranty. They aren't that great of bits I bought them and have warrantied many of them. I don't have a Mac guy anymore so you know how that story goes, it's a worthless set pretty much now. You buy a mediocre set of bits cause it has lifetime warranty then no person to warranty them and you are stuck with a $10 big box store set.

Taps and Dies are warrantied by snap on, EZ outs extractors ETC are also warrantied

Old drill bit policy is anything larger than 1/4 was lifetime warranty not sure of current policy

Walton tap extractor set. You're probably fucked if you already tried drilling it out though. If it isn't a blind hole, torch it out and helicoil.

I have had good luck with these, if the tap is stuck, you will destroy the fingers. They sell them separately.

Rule of drill bits is anything above 1/4 is lifetime warranty where below is consumable unless manufacturur defect

Now tap and dies and extractors are lifetime aswell not sure about left hand bits thou

I wore out two turbo sockets, trying to remove an old exhaust. They were part of an extractor setup from Snap-On. They were both replaced at no cost, in three days.

All my stuff is mail order (Mac) and phone calls (SO) right to the company in the past two years or so.
Snap On has warrantied broken taps, but told me no drill bits.
Mac has warrantied left hand drill bits and carbide burrs for me.

i was also told mac warranty their drill bits which is why i wanted to buy the stubby and regular drill bit sets. just havent done it yet

i also know SO warranty the reverse drill bits though

Yes sir. We just call him Bob though lol. He is a good guy. I work in the car audio industry so we don't spend as much $$ as a mechanic might but he still stops by every week and makes sure we are all good. He warrantied a broken socket my dad had found in a junk car and rebuilt a ratchet my dad had that was left outside and rusted up. I offered to pay but he wouldn't have it.
