Mac toolbox identification and price estimate.

Hey guys new to the forum I've read it for a long time but have never posted. I was recently offered a mac tool box. I'm definitely going to purchase it but I am curious as to what the tool box is branded as Tech. maximizer etc. I wasn't able to look inside of it as it was late at night and he offered it after I had finished a job. However, I was able to snap a couple of pics. They aren't great mind you. But i figured this forum would be able to help me out. Thanks, for any of your input.

What's the width X depth?

If it's like 43ish by 18 deep, it might be an economizer model with two end cabs.
The economizer series were Mac's entry level set up that were made by beach in Canada. Post more info and pictures for tHe best guess

Thanks for the response. However I honestly have no clue and can't check the box until i go pick it up the in a week or two. The gentleman is a few hours away, so no more pics until then. The guy is asking 500 for the complete box all side cabinets etc. No tools just the box. It seems like a great deal to me.

thanks man! ill call him tomorrow I'm wanting to say he said it was called something with izer in the name.. But it was late and i was tired haha.I believe its as fed wrench said. It looks like a economizer 4000 from the pictures I've been able to find.

That isn't a maxamizer that is an economizer. Also it's really just a rebranded husky. I have the same top box and it's a husky brand. It's not a bad box and for 500 for the whole top and bottom isn't a bad price either.

I agree the more i looked it doesn't seem like a macasamizer. I also agree that all the side boxes and the top and bottom for 500 is a good enough deal for any toolbox lol.

I agree with what's been said. It's an economizer and was made by beach. They made that same box for husky, Mac, and one other. I had the bottom and it was a great box. The only down side was the drawer slide detents. They crapped out and the drawers would come open sometimes. I contacted Mac and was able to get new slides, but had to pay for them. I still have the emails for future reference if you need slides. Hope this helps.

Like the others have said, that's a Beach box and the quality is mediocre at best. Real MAC boxes are made in Georgetown Ohio and the quality is excellent.

A "rebranded husky"? Is this correct? I have 2 Mac boxes that are way better built than any Husky I've played around with at HD. I'm not positive, but I'd say mine are from the 90's. I also have an older Husky side box that is well made, but I Wouldn't say it's Mac quality. Are you talking about older Husky boxes or newer, or both being rebranded Mac?

No it's a rebadged Beach from Canada not to be confused with the current PRC made Husky boxes. A long time ago say in the late 1980's to mid 1990's before the Harbor Freight box was all the rage, Husky sold a red 43ish wide top and bottom unit. It was a decent box for the money back then. At the same time MAC had the economizer series which was the same box labeled MAC. The tool box market has really changed in the last 10-15 years with all of the Chinese boxes flooding the market.

Thanks for the info everyone. This will be my first big box purchase and I just wanna make sure it's a good deal for that price. All the ones I've found couldn't come close to that price for the size of it. I doubt I'd ever outgrow this as a personal use box.

IMO you really can't go wrong for $500. You would have no problem reselling to get your money back if you decide to get a different box. Similar vintage Snap-on without the side boxes is over 4x that much. There's one on my local CL right now for $2,200. Just make sure all the drawers slide smoothly (i.e., the box isn't racked) and you should be good to go.

Thanks cgrutt. It's not gonna get much use until I graduate nursing school in December but being a welder since I was 16 and generally like building anything I gotta have a decent tool box �� I've got plenty of them just small boxes so gotta get something better
