the classic snap on boxes hold up real well and the master series will be the best bet. if you are a heavy duty tech then get the master series for sure.

I had the very first Macsimizer sold in SC back in 91-92?. Fantastic box but got a little board with it. Bought a set of Snap-On KRL triple bank (I don't remember tool box numbers as Ive owned so many). As far as looks the Snap-On has it beat hands down but when it comes to construction MAC's Maxsimizer has it hands down. The drawers are much more stable. Now that said, anything short of a Macsimizer and it's all Snap-On. I hate Mac's Tech 1000 series. I think if you were going anything short of a 72 inch box I would go with Snap-On.

I have a Tech 1000 box. My dad bought it used to give me for Xmas a few years ago. Plenty good enough for home use. When I got it, one of the drawers wouldn't lock shut, but after cleaning out the trash from behind it, not a problem. We made a top outof 2 slabs of 3/4" MDF, & I mounted a small vice in the corner of the open end(I have a 26" C-man top box on it). Got a light over the vice, and it sure is handy.

Sorry, but my SO 26in top box has been bounced around in the off road truck to being pushed around the factoury floor to its latest location in my home shop of 2000 sq ft. It dosent look new, but still works like new.

i was started with basic boxes but when i got more and more works on heavy lines, i jumped from basic boxes to Master Series (KRL1203 and KRL1003), i am glad i did it!

But i would be feeling awkward at my workplace as we maintain expensive machines but the i'm surprised that the guys there don't appreciate good tools/toolboxes.i'm just 3 months into my 2 years training programme.out of 30-40 techs, not a single snapon box.some protos but mostly boxes from China..:(
i'm interested in SO krl756 roll cab and krl 751 top...any reviews?anyone here using them?any pictures?thanks

Is it a dirty shop?
The Krl756 is a smaller box, will it hold everything?
I know that boxes are expensive, but as long as you are spending the money, if you will need a bigger box down the road, I would just do it right away.
If this is the size everyone else has, well than it must be a decent size for the job you are doing.

Always check your local craigslist for boxes, most people that own snappy boxes take great care of them and to get one for roughly 50% of is always a good possibility.

i'm working in a hangar..:)
if i were to get that krl 756,i would be the only one owning a 35" roll cab...even the seniors use 26"-27" roll cabs...some are crappy ones..:(..they just don't bother with good tools and storage..:(
unfortunately in my area, maybe a few own SO boxes...so finding a used one would be extremely rare.maybe protos would be easier...
i'm considering also the kra 4813..is it good?

the 1st bigger boxes i bought were a kr550/555 back in '85. the set you mentioned are slightly deeper.
they served me for several years, i added a matching side box, several other side boxes, and found a used roller cab for a good price.
i still have the set i bought new in '85, sold off the other roller cab and matching side cab 5 years ago. and i still kick myself for doing it.

with the variety of side boxes and lockers available now, that set of boxes will probably last you for a long long time IMO

Is this an area that sees alot of theft? If so, maybe the older guys have learned not to have anything that looks like its worth alot of money. That or maybe they just go by the motto of "whatever is cheapest tool to get the done". I've found with experience from working around a bigger group of people that stuff grows legs and walks off.

If you are looking at new kra, just go get a good used krl series box for the same money or cheaper.

I have a Tech series top/bottom MB1000A/1010A and it has served me very well(5+ years full time, 4+ years part time), even after the idiot tool dealer didn't have it strapped down in his truck and the top tipped over. Big dent in the lid and few scratches, but still worked like new. Plus, the price was right. The only problem as of late is the fake chrome covering on the drawer pulls is peeling off.

lokks like at my workplace, its more of the "if a cheaper tool can get it done, why bother with the expensive ones" motto...
but i'm wondering, why proto tools/toolboxes is least used in US..sorry coz i'm from Singapore..
how does proto 4400/4500 tollboxes compare with KRA snapon?
