I have an opportunity to buy a set of three 10", 15" and 24" pivot head pry bars for 120$ I want the snapon version but would you just say screw it and buy the Mac version? They are made in Taiwan.

Find the manufacture of each and buy straight some that source. Be cheaper then a truck name branded tool. Unless your hung up on a name. Which is fine. But that's my .02.

Yes I would blindly get the MAC's...especially if you got a good MAC guy. People $hit on the MAC brand so much here...personally neither the tools nor my driver has ever let me down.

Tracking down the OEM is a great and all, but 9 times out of 10 mail order warranty is useless..given a choice of the OEM or MAC versions, I'd pay a couple bucks for the truck service that comes with them. Penny wise Pound Foolish comes to mind.

Well, you have one, which I'd wager 75% or more here (including myself) don't... hasn't been a reliable one in the area in god knows how many years.

IMO if I did have a Mac guy, my purchases would be made with consideration that when he dies/retires/goes under/moves/changes jobs, there's a really good chance he won't be replaced.

However, something like that I agree I'd rather buy off a truck than have to mail it in for warranty, if the price difference isn't horrible. Between the wait, hassle, and expense you'd probably be close to the price of just buying another to send one back.

I didn't get to them. I decided it isn't worth the risk. When my last Mac guy retired it has been a LONG slew of one loser after another. It is sad because any of the stuff from the 70's, 80's and 90's is hands down probably the best tools manufactured. I would put them up against anything. It reminds of the current Cornwell hard line but without a decent dealer at the moment I don't really trust Mac tools to stand up on their own. Plus I know eventually I can buy Stanley at a gigantic discount latter if I want.
