Hi guys, I tried a search but have not found what i'm looking for.

I have been a wrench for 10 years and stepped on a MAC tools truck for the first time in 7 years today. Everything looked the same but i could not find 'made in usa' on anything. Have they shipped all production overseas?
Do they even make the high end boxes in north america?

This is not a troll thread, just an honest question.

Almost everything are made oversea. Maybe even their hardline tools (wrench, socket, etc). Did you see any "USA" on their wrench, socket, ratchet, etc?

They do have some stuff that is still USA. One example besides some of the ratchets are the red hard handled screwdrivers and the sockets. The screwdrivers are the best in my opinion. I did however send a gasket scraper in the other day for warranty with the red hard handle and I received a new red hard handled gasket scraper back. I noticed that on the tool it did not say USA so I looked at the package and it said Tiawan :shocking:

I dont know if they are shipping the screwdrivers over or not but I would look closely. If they do my screwdriver collection will change to all Snap On.

I did pick up a deep chrome socket and did not see 'usa' on it. Are there differnt lines of quality/coo?

I emailed them earlier this week about COO, here's what they said. That's word for word copy and pasted below.

I am not sure what you purchased but some tools are made in Tawian and the Czeh Republic. The tool boxes are made in Georgetown Ohio, the sockets and wrenches are made in the Dallas Texas area. But there are other tools such as the Expert line or pliers that are not made in the United States. MAC Tools is a U.S. own company. The parent company is Stanley Black and Decker. There is no percentage available.

Most MAC tools are made in the USA. These two wrenches I have say USA on the back side of them:

This ratchet is made in the USA too:

And so is this screwdriver:

I also purchased a socket a few months ago to complete a set and it was stamped USA. Not sure why the one you picked up on the truck didnt say USA.

They also have a MAC Edge line of sockets that are made in Taiwan, from what I remember.
They have ridges along some of the "flats" of the socket which are supposed to help with grip on the socket. I've never used one, I just saw one on a friend's breaker bar. He had no idea.

That is good to know. I bet the OP picked up one of the edge sockets.

This^^

Also, the Edge series have a "leaf" knurl as opposed to the standard SAE (plain) and metric (*** crosshatch knurl). Another tip off is most all of the Edge series carry a "G" in the part number or set number. I believe their spherical sockets (spline) are also made in Taiwan, but no not carry a G in the part numbers.

I've bought a bunch of Mac drive tools in the part few years and it was all USA. You just need to do a little research and be an informed consumer.

I happen to like Mac. Their tools are very nice, and rival Snap On in quality. I am just now having a screwdriver warranteed out, one of the old wood handles. I will be getting a red hard handle in return. My impact is going to be Mac, and I have a bunch of Mac sockets, ALL marked USA. Keep looking and if USA is important, avoid the EDGE lineup.
