just realized this is a 2 1/2 year old thread.... why dig it up?

It is an old thread, but I just ordered and received my ratcheting screwdriver this week. I didn't realize MAC was made in Taiwan which is why I was pointing out that I wish I had seen this thread before I bought the screwdriver.

In fairness, the tool appears to be a quality piece and will serve me well for many years.

I'm a novice DIY, but I like to buy quality products, especially if they're made in the US. That's why I was inquiring about Channellock. I was really hoping that all of their products were made in the US, but that may be too much to ask in this day and age.

If you really want to know why just look at what we tax a company to produce and sell here. Corporate tax rate is what 39% now?

That's right. Sykes Pickavant are a long-established British company based in Staffordshire, England. They now make specialist tools for the automotive industry - although they used to do the full range of everyday stuff - screwdrivers, wrenches (or spanners as we call them in Scotland), sockets etc. Now they seem to specialise in diagnostic equipment etc. Until recently they were part of Stanley / Facom / Mac but they have now gone independent again. They make top quality gear.

Hi Ronnie, I,m a big Sykes Pickavant and Old Britool Fan, they are both now selling stuff imported from the far east nowadays (Sykes sell some Gearwrench). I even have an old Gordon socket set that an old timer gave me in its original box with 2 sets of spanners in AF.

Interesting that you were only disappointed when you happened to notice the "made in Taiwan" label on the packaging, In my experience Taiwan is in a different league to the rest of China and makes some excellent quality tools that are closer to Japanese quality (wait till you see some of awesome Nepros stuff on this site)

Another COO timewaster reviving an old thread :(
