I just finished cleaning up this old MAC 1/2 inch ratchet. I would like to know how many years of tarnish just came off. It is heavy duty with really good knurling on the handle.

It is only marked just above the knurling. It reads MAC, and then Sabina, O. Not OH, just O. Beside that is a stamp of V6R. Looks like a hand stamp as the depth is varying. Everything works perfectly on it, seems very strong.

I have seen a few posts on Sabina marked tools, but no ratchets with the stamp in this location. Any ideas? I can't even find a V6R referenced in the forum.

Thanks. Hopefully someone has seen something like it before and can share some info on it.

Thanks for the info. I've never taken a ratchet apart before, so I'd be hesitant at starting with this one. I would like to, though, to take a look, and give it a good lube.

I picked it up to use around the house. I'd still like to get an approximate date on it. I may decide to part with it at some point, if it had more historical significance value than you'd want for your only 1/2 ratchet.

Here are a couple pics of the gears. Very easy opening it up. Hopefully it lends some clues.

Is there a tool of choice for this. I moved the lever around 180 degrees counterclockwise, and now it's stuck. Can't get it to rotate completely in either direction now?

Won't seem to budge. Not sure how much pressure to apply. With a likelihood no parts available I don't want to bust anything. Any chance something came loose inside, preventing it from rotating out?

Finally figured it all out. Here is what the ratchet head disassembled looks like. It's now lubed up and ready to go.

I just bought a ratchet that is similar to this one and am wondering about the identification of the ratchet. Mine is basically the same except mine has no "O" after Sabina on mine. It was slipping when I bought it for the grand total of 5 bucks, but after taking it apart and re lubing it up it works without slipping. However, there is a little play in the bottom part of the ratchet where the lever is seems to slide a fraction of an inch before the outside washer stops it. Did yours do this after you reassembled it? I don't know if this happened beforehand or if it was something I did in reassembling it. And of course I can't find any info from MAC as "V6R" returns no results from anything I have tried searching.

This ratchet was made in the Mac plant in Sabina,Ohio. I'm guessing that explains the "O".That's all I can help you with, unfortunately.
