Mac tools!
Well, I quite like 'em! By that, I mean proper 'Made in U.S.A' Mac tools, not rebranded stuff!
My only regret is that I turned up to the party a bit late, and many of the really nice Mac items have been discontinued!
I've always preferred Snap On, and there's no doubt in my mind they are a notch above, but Mac have (or had) their place! In the U.K. That's probably the upper middle ground that would have been filled by Britool a generation ago!
A mate has a lot of Mac, and it always struck me as good usable stuff. So much so that I've even bought a few bits myself. Trouble is, the number of item's on the van that I'd actually buy is getting less and less!
Their hard handle screwdrivers are nice, similar to the old square handle Snappy's, and I quite like their sockets and ratchets (though the old hard handle ratchets which you could still get from Mac long after they were discontinued by Snap On, are now long gone too). Aside from a few wrenches (and some lovely boxes) there isn't much else that's 'genuine Mac' left!
There's a lot of Facom, but that's not what it was, and while it might be a novelty in the U.S. I can get it anywhere here in the U.K. Same applies to Knipex pliers, and a whole load of other stuff! As for the really cheap stuff, same applies - I don't need a Mac man to bring me average Taiwanese tools at above average prices!
So, I'll enjoy using the few Mac bit's I have, and when the brand finally dies, (for it's surely a terminal case) I'll raise a glass to the one time quirky alternative to Snap On!
