Hello everyone, I was talking to a mechanic friend a while back, and he told me that he had bought a mac 1/2'' drive ratchet and that it had worn out in no time. I'm looking to buy the long handled version, and just wanted to see if he had gotten a lemon or is that a problem with Mac ratchets? Thanks for your input!

I've had that ratchet before, only reason I parted with it was the course tooth count. But it was a solid ratchet.

I had one and liked it, despite low tooth count. It had been used and abused for who knows how long before I got it, never gave me any problems. When my Dad saw it he started drooling and I could tell he was in love, so I gave it to him for Christmas 2 yrs ago, he still uses it all the time and it's been trouble free for him as well.

As far as the old school mac ratchets, my experience. My 1/2" flex head is going strong for a 15 years. I think one gut kit, so overall strong. The flex head joint is starting to get a fair amount of wear, when it fails, new 90 tooth warranty replacement. 3/8" flex, kinda mixed feelings. Never needed guts, but I think I'm number three from the flex joint snapping. 1/4" flex. Nice ratchet when it works, new gut kit every month. It's by far the weakest 1/4" from the trucks. Snappy and Matco, maybe once in 10 years. Cornwell's is pretty good too, however being 9 1/2" long, about a gut kit a year.
