I picked up a new MAC 3/8" ratchet about a week ago. To me, it feels a pretty dry and needs a little Super Lube in there.

My question: how do I get this thing apart?? When I take the three screws out, only the lever comes off. It looks like I could pound out the center part, but I am concerned about breaking something. The front cover seems very well secured without the screws.

This has me stumped. :dunno:

After the screws are out, grab the square drive with pliers and pull straight up; that will pull the gear out and the cover plate at the same time.

The XR8 is about the easiest ratchet to service, you might need to grab a small drift punch and knock the cover off thru the screw hole. For some reason the new mac ratchets have very tight fitting covers.

Or you can always just smack the business end against a good hard surface, with the screws removed of course, and the guts should pop right out.

I loosen up the cover screws up and smack the drive side on a hard surface.Comes loose right away.Uses 30 weight oil,5w 30 motor oil works very well.Only pita part is that little ball and spring, holding it in place.
