Machine oil bottles that don't ****

Alright guys, I know with all the resources here I will find something good. Between my nail guns with leaky bottles in the cases and even my hair clippers with a leaky bottle, I'm tired of oil being everywhere but in the bottles. Any suggestions? I'm looking for small ones to fit in tool cases and medium bottles for the shop.

On another note, that brings me to another question. I do small engine repair as a part time gig. I often need to prime a carburetor with an accelerant. For 4 strokes I use carb cleaner, but for 2 stroke I have to use mix fuel. I bought a squirt bottle with an adjustable neck from HF and it works great. But it too leaks terrible while sitting up right. I guess from the vapor expansion, it pushes fuel up through the stem and all over my tool cart. Suggestions on this? Maybe the same answer for both applications?...........
Thanks!
Chad

I keep a small bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil for the purposes you described along with filling the dashpots on my SU carbs and it's a leaky bottle. I think it came with that Snap-On air gasket scraper I regretted buying many years ago, but I also hope someone comes up with a good alternative.

I would like to see some solutions too. Currently I set my oil cans in tuna fish tins, that have a folded piece of paper towel in the bottom to absorb the leakage.

I thought I was the only one bothered by this......

I carry these in the rv.

Found plastic ketchup bottle squirt tops at camping world that screw on the fuel bottles and just the nozzles stay in the nail gun case.

Try replacing the O-ring in that HF bottle. I have one like it and had to do that. In my case it was WD-40 but I think it was eating at the O-ring. Less leaking since. Not 100% but much better.

Three words: Contact lenses solution.

I got to the point where I was willing to spend $10 a piece on plastic bottles that don't ****. One day, it dawned on me to use the plastic bottle that my contact lenses solution comes in. It's "medical grade", thick, and I can control the flow very easily. Best of all? No leaks, whatsoever.

I have one that I filled with acetone, and no leaks. Small opening on top lets you control the squirt very well. I highly recommend this.

I have not use machine oil in mine, only low viscous stuff like alcohol, acetone, WD40. I'm sure you can make the hole bigger and run viscous oil.

These might work for me. They have a flip up seal and if they go bad, I'll grab another. Check out the square metal tins they sell with the clear plastic windows in the tops. I can think of some good uses for them, also.

What I have had some success doing is squeezing the can before putting the top back on.
It makes a small vacuum.
That way any expansion is just getting you back to normal air pressure.

Some of the bottles gun oil comes in are great to reuse for this. A lot of them wont leak even lying in a gun cleaning kit.

I use these too, and they are great. As well, I drill out the hole in a few of them, put in a 'straw' from an old spray brake cleaner can and that let's me get a fine oiler.

Wow, lots of great ideas guys! Thank you. I'll definitely try the contact lens bottles. They come in all sizes too. Re using the gun oil bottles is good too. Thanks again.

^ I'm going to have to pick up a few of those spring bottom oilers. For the price if they are of mediocre quality their def. better than any oiler I can source locally.

I bought a fee small pump oilers from tractor supply, harbor freight, ad Menards, all imports and all went in the garbage.

That's the type I use, very reliable and cheap as well, about $8 each last time I bought them.

And I have been throwing them in the recycle bin after getting tired of looking at the empties.

So the acetone did not evaporate from this bottle at all?

Travel toiletries accessories. You'll find plenty of small bottles for shampoo, solutions, etc that have flip up top dispensers. They are sold empty typically at drug stores and meet the TSA maximum liquid container size, meaning they are perfect for our needs.

Sun tan / sun screen bottles are also ideally sized.

I use these. I keep 5w30 in them for lubing oil filter o-rings and bolt threads. I have a larger, restaurant style ketchup bottle full of gear oil for when I build rear ends. Never had any problem with leaks. http://www.ioffer.com/i/3-zoom-spout-clear-sewing-machine-oil-oiler-u-s-a-148010623

I've tried the flip top bottles that GM posi additive comes in and they ****.

I've used these before and they work great. I used to keep cutting oil in them when I worked at a machine shop.

Maybe try the bottles that are used to clean automotive spray guns.
They have a small nozzle on them that can be directed anywhere & are solvent resistant.

Filled with 50:1 mixed gasoline and after two weeks not even a small burp of fuel has leaked out. Nor has it oil canned the bottle. It may have not gotten hot enough in the garage yet though. I have not laid it on its side to test it that way yet, but we definitely have a winner to sit on a shelf. I'll report back after the side test.

I used to use small dish liquid bottles with the push seal spout for coolant, wonder how they would work with oil?

I've been wanting a place to put this tip! I have kept my lacquer thinner in a hershey syrup bottle. No leaks, vapor tight and the stopper still works perfectly. It is probably 10 years old in this new occupation. I recently saved a Method dish wash soap bottle. I plan to put deck sealer in it so I can seal the cut ends of my new pressure treated boards. I will keep a foam brush in a leftover container with the handle sticking up thru the lid, a quick squirt with the soap bottle, dab the end and put the lid back on keeping the brush from drying out.

Update on the contact bottle. It's been sitting on its side now for over two weeks 100% leak free, and still no oil canning. Temps have gotten up around 90* in the garage and dropped into the 70s at night.

Time to try some different liquids now. But I figured oily fuel would be a worst case trial.

Since not everyone uses contact lens solution I was wondering if these concentrated beverage flavor squeeze bottles would work. I have one to try out as soon as I empty it.

Those may work. I don't wear contacts, my wife and son do. I bet you know someone who does and could save you a bottle. The brand I am using is Renu Fresh. I like the clear bottle because you can see the product. They have super thick plastic too. The best part of them are, they are free!

Tractor Supply sells steel oil cans that are made in the USA, not sure how good they are, but I may pick one up. I love all the different containers and ideas. Keep up the posts so more people will add to this thread.

This is what I use in the garage to hold light machine oil.. Mine's old, but I think these are still made under the Zoom Spout trademark. Any sewing machine supply company will have them.

The smaller tube slides in/out...
