Seeing as Stanley owns Mac, Facom and Sidchrome it is still pretty exclusive. I made an offer on one of these, and if the guy takes the offer I'll get one and comment. If he doesn't it's an IR 2135QTiMAX for me.

I bought the 3/8" model back in july. I was so impressed I bought the 1/2" gun. So far so good. The best impacts I have used yet. One flaw and I consider it a minor one is where they mounted the regulator on the trigger. Of any impact I have used this one has a very controllable trigger, very easy to run slow or fast regardless of where the regulator is set at. I would recommend this to any one. Very good feel even when I have a big hub socket. Low noise minimal vibration.

No one in the shop I work in has bought one yet(16techs). I have a IR2135timax quiet and a new mg725. Heads up same air pressure and all the mg725 actually spun the 2135. This test was done with the 2 same sockets welded together. Just my .02.

On this new mac gun, I was told the newest versions can handle the air flow from a big hose. By that, I was told to hook it up to the 1/2 line like the 1 inch gun. And use the big fittings. The shop used like a tire gun for 3 weeks.

The AWP050 is an awesome gun, but the compact version is the greatest (AWP050C). The same design goes into both guns. The grip and controls are the same but the body of the compact version is almost identical to Snap On's mg325, with almost double the power. With 590 ft-lbs of breakaway torque, this gun takes on everything I work on at the Chevy dealership. My mg 325 has a nasty habit of turning down power every time it gets switched from forward to reverse. I bought the AWP050C 6 months back and haven't picked up my snap on since. I love the quick directional controls and the trigger is incredibly sensitive. The forward grip and the reduced vibration design makes this gun great to work with over 40 hour work weeks. As for bumping knuckles, i have a 3 in extension i use for recessed lug nut housings on the larger truck wheels and have never "bumped my knuckles"... that sounds like an amateurs problem to me. Who's to say the gun will last over the years, surely not I. But if it does, then as far as tools go this has been the best money spent. Except for maybe swivel impact sockets...

the guns working torque is only 630 ft lbs this is maximum torque in reverse.the break away torque they speak of means nothing.the mg725 has 810 ft lbs of working torque in reverse and smokes this mac gun.i had one that I tried out for a week, because my mac guy swore it had 1260 ft lbs of torque and he just knew I would love it.they all use phrases such as break away,or nut busting, and so on.all that matters is the actual working torque.

Interesting first post, how long have you worked for Stanley?

i bought this gun a while back and has been a great gun with lots of power(maybe even too much in some cases). The only thing i don't care for is the directional switch that most have mentioned - doesn't have any speed control - i prefer the 4 position switch found on most guns.

Just bought this gun, mac dealer threw in a set of impact sockets for my AWPO38 3/8 GUN, After taxes I paid 450, so It's not crazy over priced, and the gun works incredible, its smooth the fwd/rv switch doesn't get in my way anyways aha, i love the thing so far.

I really love my AWP050 i work on Hinos Internationals and Kodiaks the hinos and inter. have 1 5/16 nuts and 1 3/16 on the kodiaks and removes them with no problem even after theyve been put on with the big 3/4 impact. i have broken mine once already wasnt paying attention and a tire and wheel feel on the handle and broke the case, but the mac guy up held his warrenty and got it fixed for me in less then a week.

The awp050 was in the Mac flyer last month for $400 if you get the metric impact sockets too. My coworker wanted the sockets so he got them and I got the gun. Haven't used it much yet as I'm splitting a sub compact tractor, so all the fasteners I've been using my mt2220.

After a few years of being out, what's everyone's up to date opinions of the awp050?

Proto, Facom, and Mac are all identical rebrands.

I have the Proto J150WP. Lots of reviews here and on YouTube. Real tool reviews did a comparison test and the IR had marginally more torque. (almost the same)

Love the gun. Hits hard, very controllable trigger. 3 power levels in both directions. Not too loud. Good ergonomics.

Deals are around. Don't pay truck prices. Scored mine new on eBay for $168 shipped.

Here's one for $200 shipped. No affiliation, but looks like reputable seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stanley-Proto-1-2-Inch-Square-Drive-Pistol-Grip-Air-Impact-Wrench-J150WP-/162591462849?epid=1810405489&hash=item25db34d5c1:g:3qUAAOSwTY9ZaRR-

That's good to hear. We split the difference, he gave $200 for the sockets and I gave $200 for the gun.

With the awp being so quiet, would much of a gain be seen from taking out the muffling media? How do you get to it to take it out?
