After much research and planning, this fall we got started on our new detached 24 x 40 shop. Since our lot is sloped and we wanted to keep the building footprint proportionate to our house, we put a small basement below (16 x 24). We hired a good friend to do the exterior build and I am wiring and finishing it out as time and cash permit. So far everything is on budget and I couldn't be happier with the contractors workmanship. I wanted/needed a place to work on things, store stuff and park toys. Also needed to be party ready. I came up with my design according to what I needed space for and how the lot lays. I wanted a porch on the cooler east side to bbq and hang out and no windows down the hot west side. I got a lot of inspiration from the awesome builds on this forum. Here's some pics from the beginning. By the way, we live in Central Missouri and I'm about out of money-- hence thread title!

Hope you got a little farther than the pictures show before running out of cash. Lol

Looks like it will be a nice size shop to work with.

Thankfully I did get further before I ran out of cash and I did take plenty of pics. For some reason I can't post more than about 3 pics at a time here before I get an error message... Here's some more of the concrete work... and the Advantech deck over the basement portion...

More progress and the footprint is starting to take shape. Nothing like some framing to make you realize it's actually going to be a space not just painted lines in the yard and corner stakes!

Thank you-- the basement has proven to be a life saver for all the misc lawn and sports stuff I don't want in the main shop. I welded racks for my kayaks and which I also use in my camper, and threw together some shelves... Since it was in the dry first I started putting it together during a week-long rain out...

More framing and laying out the electrical. If you can tell from the pics, the Advantech floor is 1/2 inch lower than the concrete floor so that the future race tiles will be flush. The concrete all slopes away from that point, so it shouldn't cause any wet car issues.

Building crew progress by day and versaloks by me in the evening... It had been wiring for me each evening until it got to the point to move more dirt. I would gladly do electrical as opposed to block. Got all of the block except for top caps for $100 on c-list so that was a plus.

Slow going with posting pics... Exterior done and interior in progress. Ceiling and bathroom will come next year, but insulation and inside osb walls almost complete. Now that the snow id flying it is at an enjoyable stage to tinker with.

Another month has passed and progressing slower... almost finished with the walls and built a cabinet for electronics and coffee pot, etc. When things warm up I will prime and paint the cabinet all black. Trying to keep it cheap, I scrounged an old barbeque grill handle for the big door, and repurposed some left over plastic flooring for the counter top. Working in the cold definitely has moved up the priority for a hanging electric heater!
