Made a Stack Cover

Here are some pictures of a cover I made for my stacks today. I was tired of burning things so I made this. I built a frame out of angle iron and then bolted the diamond plate to it. I then used chrome acorn nuts to finish it off. The last picture is of the truck with the tonneau cover on. I think it turned out nice.

Looks nice, though I have never understood why anyone would want to loose an entire foot of storage? :headscrat

but why wouldn't anyone NOT want obnoxious stacks to draw all kinds of negative attention to them as they go full fuel away from every red light and stop sign... what's not to like?

Personally I think it's a very tidy bit of work that looks great. It's custom and meant to be different than the rest and it's very very nice. Job well done!

I have two trailers so thats not a concern.

Way to stereotype all diesel drivers. I personally use my truck for hauling and stacks came as a necessity. My egts are 200* lower and also all the exhaust fumes are shot over my trailers. Why would I want my horse/cattle to breath the fumes?

Thanks for the compliment.

Looks like you did a great job. Curious question though, did it only snow on one side of your house?

No! That other picture is from a few months ago. I thought I would throw in a picture with the cover on.

Looks good with the diamond plate. But with a truck, it seems that leaves and such circulate behind the cab. Do you get anything in behind the diamond plate or have you taken any of it off to look.

Non-the-less though.....way nice job on the fab work. I'd bet you could fab a few up and sell them as fast as you could fab them to the diesel guys that run stacks

That would make a nice addition for ones that also run diamond plate toolboxes, as a filler panel. It would let you set your toolbox up against without having a large void between.

Very nicely done,:thumbup:That's not something you see every day.
It's always easy for some to critisize some one's work from the comfort of there chair rather than going in the shop and making something creative for themselves or someone else.

What are the black rings made of on the top? Grommets?
The black rings are pieces of door trim I found at Autozone. You are supposed to put them on the edge of a door to prevent scratches I guess. They worked good for me though.

Thanks! I haven't found any leaves in there yet but some snow does blow in. The only way they could get in is from around the stacks on the top. My tonneau cover stays on 90% of the time now anyway. I only haul something in my bed if its to small for my trailers.

Because some people are self appointed critics. I can appreciate the project here and see it was done very well. However it’s not my cup of tea as I also would not do hydraulics, or some loud booming imports either. I do admire some of the work done on the aforementioned style of rigs and know from building some hotrods in years past all the work and skills that go into the project.

To many people have a very narrow idea of what is acceptable and feel free to criticize. I guess it makes up for what they are lacking in other areas of their lives.

You did a great job fabing the cover. Personally I never have liked the look of stacks on a pick up. The OP is the first one I've heard give a legitimate reason for them though. Keep soot off his trailers and keep from fogging his horses and cattle. That makes sence. On a recent trip to southern Missouri I saw a truck with one 10" stack sticking straight up in the middle of the box, now that just looked plain stupid unless everything you carried is shaped like a donut.

I don't generally like stacks, because as mentioned above, you do lose quite a bit of usable bed space, and then people put tool boxes after the stacks and it looks strange to me, but I think that you've done a nice job tidying the look up of the the crossover pipe and stuff... Honestly it looks really nice.

I have an idea for you: Manufacture a door to go in the center or near one of the stacks, and make a shelf out of expanded metal and then you have a burrito warmer upper made into your truck... I know I know, this is an ingenious idea, you don't have to thank me!
