I'm the first to admit that not every object in my garage was made in the U.S.A. And I'm not the kind of guy that has enough time to constantly find myself wrapped up...

The new forum/list already got my attention, Ryan. Thanks. Hopefully, there will be many pages on it soon.

You can't reply to threads... You can only start new threads. Reason being, it's not a discussion forum - it's a simple list.

If that is the case, I don't think you can include 100% of Leatherman as USA. Their older products used to say they they were made in Oregon on them. Many no longer have a COO and their website is a bit ambiguous on the topic.

Oh, cool idea for a new category. It might be nice if people could post so more info can be added to the knowledge base. Granted I could see how that will get out of line.

Thanks!

Perhaps for companies that have mixed COO products (some made here, some made elsewhere) people could post in that section not for the company as a whole, but for the specific USA products they sell? Red Wing Shoes, for example.

Just an idea, not sure if it follows Ryan's original intent.

I like this idea. Can we add weathertek floor mats? Also lisle tools (on the list) are great specialty tools- but i know for a fact several products they sell are not made in usa.

I am however, ok with it. They are a us company that makes stuff in us, obviously they choose to offer some products that they do not manufacture themselves, but the fact that they pride themselves in being an american company.

"The specialty automotive tool line now consists of more than 400 products, with the great majority of them being produced at the expanded site of the original factory built in Clarinda, Iowa in 1903."

I like the idea of the list but can we add something that lets people review the products? I know some people have good luck with redwings boots while others have not so good luck. This way somebody can know what they're getting into. Jus' mah 2c

should there be a rating of tools (1-5 by quality) or would this be hard to know?

Great idea Ryan. Thank you. As the forum has an International membership can we post about Australian, New Zealand and European tools etc. ? :)

I guess Chinese stuff will be off topic

Leatherman corkscrews and files are imported from Europe, their pliers jaws are Mexican. There was a lawsuit relating to their COO, where they successfully defended against a (fairly frivolous) damages claim but had to make factual COO statements, although they continue to insist that they do enough processes in Oregon to qualify for 'Made in USA' status.

Good to know. I think they would be better off listing that info on their packaging or at least their website. Right now the COO is just blank if you try to figure it out.

Grate idea but some of those products have lots of foreign parts on them. I think there should be a way for a customers to reflect that under the posting. Maybe talk about it also.

For example Mayhew Radiator Hose Pick Set are made with global components.

Saylor-Beall uses chines pipe, mag stators, belts.

Baldor uses chines pulleys.

Redwings boots mix bag.

I was going to list Maglite but I recall an article I read that they are not 100% American made. They want to be but apparently they cannot find a US company that makes O-rings. I have had a 4-D cell Maglite for over 30 years. It's been everywhere, in my car, camping, under the house, in the attic. If something goes "bump" in the night it's in my left hand and my M1911-A1 is in my right.

Re: Made In The U.S.A. - Thanks - Now go Vote!

THANK YOU for starting this thread! I work at a manufacturing plant and we feel like we have been dropped behind enemy lines with no support!

I found several products on your list I can now find and buy made in USA (especially clothing) and tools.

Please write your state and national representatives.

Thanks again.

Please...If you post a company...make damn sure you know what you are talking about and validate it first. Thank You in advance.

Maybe list some proof? Any that should not be on that list?

There needs to be a way of commenting on the links. Too easy for someone to erroneously post a product that is made in China, with a lable that says "American Tough" or somesuch.

This will only work with community moderation.

Agreed. I'd like to add information that I have collected over the years to some existing threads.
