So I was planning on buying USG boxes in the next few weeks. Given the last month or so I am having second thoughts about buying Made in China. Assuming I don’t change my mind, what are my Made in the USA options?

What has changed in the last month or so that is making you want a made in USA box versus the US general box?

Offhand, Proto, Kennedy, Snap-On, Mac, Cornwall, and Lista. Kennedy makes Cornwall's boxes, and I would assume Proto and Mac address coming out of the same factory.

How much were you going to spend at Harbor Freight?

Check out Tektons new Made in Canada boxes.

Um, really??? It’s a political discussion that not appropriate here, and you should know that and know better to bait someone to answer.

Add Stor-loc to the list of USA made boxes.

My Proto’s say they are from Georgetown, OH. According to the warranty card that came with them it’s the same place Mac boxes are made.

I forget the name of the Canadian outfit supplying Tekton now but their website is pretty impressive. It's not Harbor Freight pricing, though.

Lista is owned by Stanley too (since 2012) but idk if they kept the same facility....also Waterloo, bought by Stanley to make the new Craftsman boxes.

Along with Lista, all the other modular style companies like Vidmar, Shure, etc. $$$ though.

If expect nice truck boxes to start hitting the used market soon...

Lista and (Stanley)vidmar are one and the same now, as Dave mentioned.

Rousseau is another modular box like lista. It’s Canadian and most likely who is making tekton boxes.

Stor-loc is modular as well made in Kankakee Illinois

If you buy a steel box, then where was the steel made? Can you be sure it is from Nucor?

See the problem??

not to get too political but I don't blame the suffering citizens of a country for their govt.

but it's up to you & used is an option too

Isn't gerstner imported now, China I think?

Please lay off the political angle. The guy described what he's looking for.

Gerstner still makes boxes in USA. However, they have a more economical imported line of boxes that are sold under the Gerstner International name.

Always good to see Americans supporting American manufacturing. Wish more folks would. The Defense Production Act is useless when there are no American manufacturers. We've seen what happens when required imports are deemed essential by foreign countries and banned from export when they are most needed (even when manufactured by US companies in foreign nations). Not to mention the flow of jobs and money outside the country.

As mentioned, the lowest cost might be a used truck brand like a KRL or similar. They are always on CL and FB. Used Vidmar cabinets are out there, but usually ugly and rough.

I have 6, soon to be 8 Lista's. They are awesome, and you get a lot of flexibility and density. They are not cheap by any means though.

I attached some Lista pics you can ponder./

The newer Stanley brand boxes are assembled in USA unless Stanley actually lists them as Made in USA instead of Made in USA with Global Materials. I know for sure that the Mac flyers say Made in USA with Global materials and that the US assembled Stanley Craftsman boxes are also Made in USA with global materials. I would put Proto, Mac, Craftsman, Vidmar, and Lista into a secondary USA assembled list if we are talking about newer boxes.

Exactly, thats why I picked up a new KRL722 last week from my Snap-on dealers shop. Made in Algona, Iowa

The Mac and Proto boxes are now made in Allentown, Pennsylvania. I believe in the same plant as Lista and Vidmar

Matco's are made in Jamestown, New York

If somebody doesn't mind the price of tool truck boxes , there are some good deals available now along with financing perks like dont pay for 90 days and lower interest rates.

Some boxes that were sold last month up here in BC, Canada

I think that S.B.D. wants everything labeled the same way whether it would qualify as "Made in U.S.A." or not. I doubt that much of anything changed for Waterloo after acquisition. That makes it a crapshoot to know whether something was what we would understand as made here versus assembled here.

Used Snap On KRA boxes (older are Canadian, newer are USA) are great and can be bought very reasonably.

I was curious so I checked out the new Tekton stuff... yeah no thanks. I could get 2 week old nicer used truck box’s for that...

I appreciate the effort... but the numbers don’t line up.

do the USA made boxes, like Snap On, use USA built roller slides for the drawers? That could make boxes "global materials" even if the vast majority was made in the US.

I am a fan of MATCO boxes as they are made in Jamestown, NY.

But, for affordable boxes that aren't bad... Waterloo Professional or their HD/Magnum line. If you have a Sears Hometown nearby.. see if they got any EDGE boxes in stock as those are Waterloo and USA made and even if Sears goes under, parts can still be had through Waterloo/SBD.

edit- Steve_P, Waterloo/Craftsman/SBD use Taiwanese slides but they are actually really good quality and do go through a final hand-check QA at the factory in Sedalia,MO

They appear to be Rousseau cabinets. Very high quality stuff.

The numbers definitely line up considering what you’re getting. High quality tool boxes with 400lb drawer capacity, for cheaper than a truck-brand box. What’s not to like?

My ~10 year old Craftsman/Waterloo have Taiwan and China slides. I believe the boxes were made in Mexico. But what about Snap On and other truck brands? Where are the slides made? I realize this is minor percentage of content, but I also wonder if it's why some boxes are USA with global content

I am not actually sure where Snap-On got theirs. It used to be a company in Michigan but penny pinching I guess?

I know my box was made in Sedalia,MO as it was made in May 2017. Drawers were made on Feb 12 2019 I believe. And yes, its why there are alot of things with that statement.

There's also Gray if you're ok with Canada.

There's also Strong-hold, who were featured in one of Abom79's vidoes:

If you really want to be patriotic, go with this one:

FTC rules on "Made in USA" are pretty strict. Steel has to come from US steel mills, fasteners need to be US made, etc. I think the only things allowed to be imported are small, non-functional parts such as trim pieces.

You arent gonna get better than the us general for the money spent, add to that harbor freight employes more american workers than snap on does, and idk what to tell ya. If you need a usa made box theres been tons of suggestions here (and good ones) at a MUCH higher price. And "buying used" doesnt help the said american worker touted here, so that argument doesnt work either. Your choices are really pony up the dough for us brand or spend much less on a not quite as good us general (or extreme, or homak, or...etc). I will add- i have a small cornwell box (more of a cart, tbh) and, while very nice, its NOT us made.
