Fibremetal Pipeliner hood is made in the USA. I love mine. Not a flip front but they make aftermarket kits that you can install to make it one. Though I hear it messes up the balance of the hood.

Also, ditch the headgear it comes with install some Jackson 370 headgear. Helps the hood stay up when you have it flipped up and ratchet is a lot nicer.

Just buy a good helmet...Speedglas or Jackson and be done with it.

Even US made helmets are probably "assembled in the USA with globally sourced parts".

As long as you get a quality lid with a good reputation, warranty, and safety COO is secondary.

With the reputation of overseas quality control issues, I'd say, LX, that COO goes hand in hand with safety.

i have a good welding hood. i have a jackson shadow with a shade 10 gold lense. its a great hood, but its made in vietnam. i want a good hood made in the usa.

i dont dispute that quality things are made outside this country but i'd prefer spend my money in the country i made it.

While I agree with keeping it in the USA. There are some things that just aren't reasonable or feasible anymore. There's not too much technology involved in a fixed shade hood so I think the OP will be fairly safe but what do you do when it just isn't available new anymore?

Speedglas is made in Sweden, so at least it's not China.

It doesn't seem they advertise where their products are manufactured, but some retailers and some recent threads (less than a year old) on other forums claim "Made in the USA". You may have to email them to be sure if there are no physical stores near you that carry their products.

I know it is not a welding hood but my new Fibre metal hard hat is USA. Which is why I buy them.

One of the companies I work for is Sellstrom. They have several welding helmets made here (280, 290, Advantage, etc.), though most of the filters are made in Switzerland. http://www.sellstrom.com/series/?xid=28 As a side note, the helmets meet ANSI impact standards as well.

They do carry fixed shade filters if that is really what you want, though I would recommend the MagSense, it is what I use and has patented dual sensors (optical and magnetic), so ambient light, other welding arcs nearby, etc., do not let it flicker. http://www.sellstrom.com/series-detail?xid=198

I personally use the MagSense ADF in a Titan black/silver helmet.

Really not trying to plug one of the companies I work for... it's what I use and can speak to experience with it.

Good info, thanks. Nice that Sellstrom is still around.
