I wonder where the first one was made ;).

The first fan motor was made in Korea - it had started making a ticking noise and got slower and slower and eventually stopped.

The new replacement one made in Viet Nam seems OK - still good after a couple of years.

I buy "Made in Vietnam" stuff if it appeals to me. Usually clothing and the like, but that is one way I try to control my impulse buys. If I gotta have it and the price is right I look at the tag. If it says China I put it back; if it says Vietnam, Bangladesh, or any given number of other countries, it goes in the cart. So much stuff comes from China nowadays that I tend to put back more than I buy. :)

As for the Vietnam War, I blame the French. :D

People got rich & generation of young men didn’t come home. And the end result now is the same as it would have been if we never went there. So the question is why? That’s who you should be wary of.

It was a complex situation, your summary is good--and applies to today's world problems.

As for Viet Nam, you can choose to live in the past, but personally I won't. If we take the attitude that Viet Nam's people are bad, then as others mention we must apply the same to other countries too. It's been 40 years at least--let's bury it (and perhaps close this thread!)
