Mag starter questions.

Help! How does this work? I want to use it on my 3hp compressor. The pressure switch is broken and the contacts are badly burned. I want to use this starter to take the load off of the new pressure switch.

The motor has built in thermal protection with a reset button. Not sure why the mag only has one heater......

This will be running 240v at approx 12a.

I also have a fused disconnect but it uses screw in fuses. Is it even legal to use anymore?

All this stuff is old pumphouse equipment my father has from 20+ years ago.....

Whoops. This should have been in the Electrical section.

Either way I tested the starter and it works. The heater in it is even one made for 15-16.5 amps. Max on my compressor is 15a so this is perfect.

Going to use the screw fuse disconnect. Code or not it's just right to have a disco above the compressor instead of having to go all the way across the basement into the addition to flip the breaker off.

Now I plan on running 12/2 to the compressor. Should I put 15a or 20a fuses in the disconnect? I would rather have the breaker trip then blow fuses that are becoming harder to find locally.

Would it be too bad to throw 30a fuses in the disconnect therefor insuring that the 20a breaker would trip before the fuses blow if there is a dead short?

The only way a Edison base fuseholder can be used in a new installation is if type S adaptor is used, BTW that starter will be fine & only 1 heater coil is required for a single phase motor.

What is a type s adapter? Is that for the fuses with a smaller threaded base?

Excuse the dumb questions. I am not up to date on this older electrical stuff.
