I,ve got a home made device made out of some brake line with an old throttle cable threaded through which forms a loop, its for getting keys out of locked cars really but it works well for picking up stuff thats non magnetic and pulling cables through grommets etc.

The one that saved my *** was made by ulman, flexable with a magent at the end as well as magic fingers, dropped a socket down the rear engine cover on a Ford 6.0 diesel. It fell all the way to the bottom. Blindly fished around for about ten minutes and there was my socket. I swear it was like the movies when everything goes slow motion and there is not a dam thing you can do to stop it from happening.

My dad used a craftsman one to pull **** my cousins kids shoved down the drain( 2 broken razors, a spoon, a bouncy ball in chunks).

I had allways thought about getting one, and now I know it's a worthy tool.

Ya gotta watch out, he was playing with it ( pinching it on his finger) and the tips went though the skin! :eyebulge:

Extendable magnets are a very useful tool, especially when jammed in a truck engine bay and you drop a socket.

A magnet and a mirror have saved my *** more than once. I have two grabby-fingers but don't remember the last time I used them. They're there when I need 'em though.

^^^ Pretty much the same.

Small and large telescoping magnets. Small and large telescoping mirrors. 2 grabby-fingers. One has 3-prongs, and the other is 2 heavy prongs almost as strong as a pair of pliers (old Snap-On or Proto, can't remember without digging it out to look).

I use the magnets a lot. Can't remember the last time I used the grabby-fingers, but I wouldn't want to not have them in the tool box just in case.

And a wad of duct tape sticky-side out on the end of a piece of wire or welding rod has saved my @$$ a few times too.

I use them constantly, just because if I drop something, it is going to be the most inconvenient *%@&ing place possible. I even took it a step further and got one of those 150lb pull magnets from Harbor Freight and tied it to 50' of rope for rescuing stuff dropped in ore chutes.

I use them a lot. I am constantly pulling wires through the dash, door boots etc. and they become a life saver. I have a Blue Point one that has the claws and a magnet along with a light. Thing is pretty damn handy
