I upgraded my 2D and 5D with TerraLUX LED bulbs years ago. Highly recommended.

https://www.shopterralux.com/shop-a...-led-conversion-kit-for-4-6-cell-c-d-maglite/

The TLE-6EX is for the 5D or 6D. TLE-6EXB is for 2D. They have one for the 2AA as well.

One thing to note, the LED will work until the batteries are completely dead, well past the point where they've started to leak. So check your batteries occasionally to make sure they're not leaking.

Does the kit say how many lumens it is? I bought a new AA maglite not long ago and was very impressed with its output. Seems maglite finally made a competitive LED light. 245 lumens and it was only $20 at walmart.

I upgraded one of my 4D mags to LED many years ago. It was easily twice as bright as the high beams in my Toyota Previa. Unfortunately the LED chip broke off and it stopped working. I looked for years for a replacement LED bulb with no luck. The few I did find weren't even as bright as the original bulb.

The factory upgraded Maglites are fantastic, ML300L and ML300LX. I have the ML300L and took it to a midnight corn maze last year. It was so incredibly bright on high mode, my friends started referring to it as the Sun!

On eco mode, the 3-D cell version has a run time of almost 5 days.

On high mode, the entire flashlight body gets a bit warm. They completely redesigned it so that the whole body serves as a heatsink for the LED, and it apparently works very well.

I second TerraLUX. I upgraded my 2AA and 4D with TerraLUX LED bulbs about 2 years ago. No issues since the upgrade. Highly recommended.

Hey, what a great idea! I've had a 6D for about 40 years. Dang thing can double as a lethal weapon! Hardly ever use it, so it's about time that I checked the batteries.
Thanks for the reminder.

I used to carry my 5D when I was a bouncer to help "******" unwelcome guests outside.

I did an LED upgrade few years ago to 4D and 6D maglites and was not impressed compared to factory LED 2D maglites. I forget the brand. What brand puts out the most light?

I got my 5D in college, working as a pizza delivery guy. Officially it was to help find houses in the dark. Only had to use it the other way once.

I have had great luck with Terralux MAG AA conversions, and eventually switched to their flashlights until I got my Fenix TK20R. It's been the best daily carry light I've ever had and for the price, I can't really see a competitor. I got it just before last Christmas, use it 5 days a week on the 3rd brightest setting and so far have only needed to charge it twice...

The Malkoff stuff makes me think I'll be spending a little $$$ to convert all my old MAG stuff... Thanks a lot.:lol_hitti

I've been slowly changing over to LED in all my Mag-Lites (and I have a bunch!). For emergency use, I keep at least one AA in every car. The one rule I religiously follow (and this is my suggestion to all) is that every AA is fuelled by Eveready LITHIUM batteries. No leaks, plus they work much better in extreme cold.
