Magna tools

I have had this USA made Magna insert bit screw driver kit for 32 years, give or take a few years. I think I got it at Granger but i am not sure. It was my first tool that could handle Torx. I now keep it in my kitchen as a convenience for whenever I need some kind of fastener removed or installed on the first floor. Anyone else own any Magna tools.?

My company used to give these away at Christmas. If I remember Magna was one of the brands owned by the Primark Tool Group. They had DML blades and several other commercial woodworking consumables.

We haven't dealt with them for several years and I have no idea if they are still in business.

At some point, Magna was a product division of Vermont American. They had a manufacturing plant in Elizabethtown, KY, which is now permanently closed.

I bought a NOS AT&G driver & bit set that is the exact same set as what is offered by Proto. So, I have some questions I was hoping you all can help answer. Not much on the internet in who AT&G was and the paper insert has a 1993 copyright. 1. What was AT&G Inc out if Alexa, Alabama and did...

Bosch used the MAGNA brand after they bought Vermont American.

Brownells still has an extensive selection of bit/screwdriver sets marketed for firearms.

Interesting. The Proto and Hanson look almost identical. The case is just a mirror image in a different color.

It is a pretty nice set for what it is. Even 30 years later. I like how the top of the screw driver handle rotates so when you are applying downward pressure you do not have to let up so much.

Just found my first Magna tool. This 3/16 nut driver. Usually pass up nut drivers but wanted to see more about this manufacturer and the tool feels really sturdy!

I found a Magna bit driver the other day in a pawn shop for $1. Extra-long shank, but the cap is missing. I also found that same Stanley driver, also for $1.

I also have the Vermont American driver in the above pick, which I bought from a local hardware store a few years ago. The packaging was covered in dust and the plastic blister was yellowed. The white plastic cap was dry-rotted, but the driver itself is in good condition. I'm using a silicon rubber stopper as a replacement.

It's too bad Vermont American/Magna no longer makes screwdrivers. They were quite good.

Nice little score. Definitely some quality tools. Occasionally I'll see them for sale in a case along with a set of bits. The screw cap was used on quite a few bit drivers but you won't get a replacement unless you score an entire bit driver or maybe you could have one 3D printed. I am not a fan of the plastic cap on the VA bit driver. It sticks out from the handle and isn't removable for convenient bit storage it seems. At least I don't feel as though I can pull it off without damage. The grip feels great though. The Qualtool is also very good quality. The magnet isn't quite as strong but has better tolerance for bits. I stole the bit holder from a extra Qualtool and used it for one of the Chapman drivers. I like the grip of the Stanley but the magnet is very weak on mine.
