Learned a new trick today.
I have had these 18" x1 " magnets lying around the shop for over 20 years. They look like 2 pieces of 3/4" galvanized pipe. I had no idea what to do with the things, but my dad gave them to me years ago. These things are so powerfull that you can not keep them from attaching to each other.
Anyway,s I now have made me a magnet vice to hold pieces of steel that need to be ground with flap disks. Instead of putting the steel in the regular vice and changing positions in the vice ever time you need to grind a different side, I now just stick the work piece to the magnets. The magnets stick to the steel welding table and the work piece sticks to the magnets. I can safely use 2 hands with the grinder and change the work piece very quickly.
I'm still refining the magnet cage, but will try to post pics when I get it dialed in. I'm pretty sure the rest of you fabricators get what I'm trying to describe.
