The folks that make this thing sent me an email today and I figured I would float it out there. Essentially, it's a wide-angle LED mounted in a golf ball sized sphere with...

How Ronco Informercial-ish :lol_hitti

On the plus side, watching the product demonstration video on their website with Jaime Estrada was pretty entertaining :D

yep, I agree seems like something Billy Mays would have pitched. Too much of a gimmick tool for my taste. I guess it could come in handy on a rare occasion, (on a sub panel door like in the picture). But that's about all I can think of?

I also picked one out of the clearance rack at Home Depot. It wouldn't work so I took it apart and had to bend the contacts on the switch. I think it is more of a gimmick than a tool. My 4 yr old thought it was a toy, and she is probably right. I wonder how much battery life is in those little "hearing aid" batteries?

I got one of these mine lights for Christmas from a coworker... it is still stuck to my desk. Another coworker got one as well and one of his magnets came out right away (glued in, so easy fix). It's a single LED, so it's gonna be pretty wimpy no matter what, but the concept means you can point that LED just about any way you need. Oh, and no way to replace the battery I can see...

I've got one of these in my box somewhere, it's actually rather neat. Has come in handy a few times where a 'traditional' lighting approach just won't work deep in the engine bay. Haven't had a need to use it in forever, though.

BTW, I just found out these are on sale at Radio Shack for $2.99. At that price, I figured, "Why not?"

Bought two.

My work carries these L.E.D. work lights from Phoenix U.S.A. They're a pretty nice little light for the money and have a decent strength magnet and also a swivel hanging hook. $9.99 out the door everyday.

I've seen the same light rebranded and sold off the Mac truck for $14.99.

My Mac guy gave me one of those as a freebie. Great little light, and the magnet is actually strong enough to hold the light. Brighter than I would expect for $9.99

I'm a big fan of headlamps. If your in a spot you don't want it on your head, you can hang it or set it down and adjust the angle.
