Magnetic Pick-Up Tool Recommendations?

My cheap pick up tool from Lowes kicked the bucket this weekend and I was looking for a replacement. On mine, one of the telescoping sections fell out. I dont really want to buy another crappy one, so I was looking for some recommendations. Let me know what Styles/Brands/Models that work well.

I used one like this, which is nice for fitting in some tight spaces but has some limitations because of the magnet length.

This type has a great magnet strength but has a large diameter head and doesn't pivot.

I also have one just like the first one you posted, but it's not my favourite choice when I have to pick something in an area where there's ferrous materials everywhere. It doesn't have an isolating sleeve (or Powercap as they call it) so it's annoying.

I've got a couple similar to the first example shown at the top, but mine are fixed-length models. Not bad. That Hazet model Monte posted looks like somebody put a little more thought into the design than any others I've seen.

The kind with the shroud around the magnet is better because it does stick yo everything but the loose part. I've had a couple of these over the years. The better quality ones have stronger magnets and better shafts. I have blue points which are rebranded Ullman. I won't start a job without one.

Ullman is what I use. Great tool. Saved my *** couple of times so far. Thinking of buying anther. I have the flex shaft one.

That flexible Hazet is $70+. That's a lot of money for a magnet.

I use them all and recommended getting them all. There isn't one "best" out there. They each will shine on a different job/usage

Work as advertised, and the price is right, too...

The first one, Tekton #7617, picks up 50 pounds!!!

The second one, Tekton #7611, is flexible...

And, the third one, Tekton #7610, has a light, helpful a lot more times, than you'd think...

That should cover just about every situation...But they have more, if you can come up with a new one...Grabbers, pocket clip-ons, etc...

All three of the ones shown, come to $35.61...Total!!!

I would recommend one that works on a spring / plunger on the end.

The magnet goes up inside the sleeve, you push the button on the end and the magnet pops out. ( Kinda a grabber/ pick up tool ) If you are going after something in a crowded engine compartment you don't want the magnet sticking to anything and everything between you and the bolt you just dropped.

It's saved the day on many occasions.
I guess it comes with the hook deal and ball chain now. It's designed for wire running and I use it for that, but more often find it useful as a pick up tool.
