I hate magnetic screwdrivers.

A strong magnet can make it harder to get the screwdriver into the screw head, especially if the screw is set into something thats also magnetic. This is worse if the screw isn't visible and you have to feel with the screwdriver to find the screw.

If the screw or item the screw is set in is rusty, or for some reason has steel or iron dust on it, the screwdriver winds up getting coated in the dust, which doesn't help when dealing with slip prone screw-head types like Philips.

If you really want magnetized screwdrivers, you'd be better of buying a quality set of screwdrivers, and a Magnetizer/Demagnetizer. Wiha makes a good one that's carried by a number of retailers.

I just have a cheapo magnetizer/demagnetizer hanging on the wall. If my screwdriver is magnetized and it's bugging me, I pass it through the demagnetizer side. if I need it magnetized, well you get the picture...

As above, just use the magnetiser to turn it on or off. It is rare that I want my drivers magnetised but it can be handy. Occasionally I accidentally magnetise a screwdriver so have the demagnetiser to hand is a must.

Sometimes they have their uses, for example when you are trying to start a screw located in some sort of recess where you can't get your fingers, but sometimes they are a pain!

I have a decent set of conventional drivers and a magnetic bit driver, and use whichever is appropriate!
