Magnetic socket trays?

I've obtained one of the Lisle magnetic socket trays:

http://www.lislecorp.com/divisions/products/?product=236&division=1&category=16

...and I like it so far. However, the arrangement doesn't thrill me. It's set up for a standard length on one side and deep on the other. I'm sure that works for some folks, but in my case I'd rather have standard on both sides and a tray with deep on both sides.

When I'm working on something whose origins are unclear or - like my '93 F250 - mixed, I'll usually need both the metric and SAE sets. I don't know, until I put the socket to the fastener, which I might need. On the other hand, I know when I'm going to need a deep socket.

With their arrangement, I have to take two trays whether I want/need to or not. I'd rather have all of my standard length sockets, metric and SAE, in one tray and all my deeps in another. It would make far more sense.

I can put both standards on one tray, but I'll be wasting some drawer space to do so. On the other hand, it's not really practical to put deeps on each side, since one set will not be fully supported.

Does anyone make a similar tray but arranged as I've described?

I use them for my 1/4 dr sockets. Allows me to store them in a thin drawer and also to pick them up and take them to the job. I think the 1/4 dr set works well.

Those rails are teh $hit and worth every penny.

Lay down holders , at least everyone that I have seen, are meant to do only SAE or metric and deeps and shorts together.

Feeling abitious, cut two in half and make your own by pop-riveting or bonding to a sheet of alum. or thin steel as a backer.

Socket storage is a tricky conversation as everyone likes something different, but the mfgrs. just toss **** out there and hope it works= Fail.

I hate the pegs so I use both rails and laydown magnet trays.
I have a Snappy set of metric crowfoots in 3/8" drivs. How the F*&k are those supposed to go in a lay down socket tray.

D'oh.

Hf has magnetic rails that are about 15" of magnet and they have been $3 recently. For the price you could screw these to some mdf or pegboard and have 150 linear inches for about 40 bucks. Just a thought.

YIKES! I don't mind paying for quality, but I do have limits! I'd hate to see what the 1/2" costs...

Sears actually sells similar ones for a lot cheaper, although I have to imagine they aren't of the same quality.

I use these Lisle socket trays from SO for my 3/8" and 1/4" sockets in one thin drawer. I used to love them, but I've actually been looking for a different solution. The diameter for each socket doesn't work for everything, and they don't hold everything. I'm tempted with enough of these and accessories for all of my sockets, ratchets, and accessories in all the sizes I have.
