Anybody know of a decent brand of magnetic sockets??

I only need a 10/13mm in 3/8" drive (Impact preferably)

I have found some Koken ones on ebay at £20 each :shocking:

Would socket magnets inserts work for you? I see they are out of stock on the Amz UK site, but I've used similar and they work well if the situation warrants it. Whole set stateside is like $18 US but at least they can be used in what ever socket you need at the time.

Thanks, I have tried some very similar with 3 tiny magnets on the insert, they work Ok if everything is spotlessly clean

The cars I work on tend to be dirty rusty heaps of junk unfortunately :(

Second the Grey Pneumatic. Have a 1/4" and 3/8" set. I don't use them terribly often but they really come in handy once in a while.

Mine are grey-pneumatic. I much prefer nut-grip sockets as they're less likely to get stuck to the fastener and pop off the extension, they don't fill will rust-crust debris, and they work on aluminum fasteners. But magnets have their place.

Koken nutgrip obviously aren't impact rated, the grey-pneumatic are. IIRC you can knock the magnet out with a punch when they get really nasty. You could also likely make your own with a neodymium magnetic in a regular socket.

2ndGear mentions using your own magnet. What if you glued a small neo magnet on the tip of an extension? Then when it could be used with various sockets and easy to wipe off. Not sure if it would be strong enough though.

I that is the case, how would you expect to keep the internal magnets clean of rust and gunk if they are non-removeable?

I figured a proper magnetic socket would be much stronger than the little inserts

I have this 1/4" magnetic extension which is super handy when I need it. Maybe check to see if S-O offers any in impact and larger sizes.

What is the best place to get the koken nut grip sockets? I am interested in these for power tools, so I don't drop fasteners when using them.
Thanks in advance.

I bought a 7mm Grey pneumatic magnetic impact socket to try on interiors and found that the magnet wasn't strong enough so screws stayed in the dash or fell on the floor.

I was comparing it to some nut drivers which worked much better as they had larger magnets. Not 3/8" though

I got.mine from Frank's tools. But with covid19 nonsense going on international shipping can be problematic. Unless someone has them domestically or you can buy them from a small vendor overseas they may be tough to get.

Well, they arrived I only ordered exactly what I think I will use 8mm/10mm in 1/4 drive and 10mm/13mm in 3/8 drive.

Got to recommended UK Tools Ltd.

Decent website, paypal and shipped to me in under 48hrs and they threw in some nice Koken decals.

They do have some Koken stuff on sale
