I need recommendations on a decent magnetic 5/8" spark plug socket in the $10-$15 range. The one I have worked for like the first year but now the magnet hardly holds the plug in the socket. Kind of a pain when you have to slide the plug 5" down a hole on some of the newer cars and the plug falls out and lands on the electrode! All I see on Amazon are off brands that I've never heard of.

I have a Gearwrench magnetic socket. It works fine. Do you need a set or just one size?

I found a set from eastwood that have extentions made onto them and they work great on my hemi for holding plugs and have a good length to them.

I have a generic one that I got from an auto parts store, works fine, but I haven't touched it since I got the Zeal style with the clips.

I have a "Bikemaster" set, made in Taiwan, purchased from a motorcycle shoppe a while back. Very nice, reasonably priced.

The "rubber tube" style always fail at the most inopportune times; the tube pulls out and stays on the plug, or they lose their grip on the plug, or get stuck. I hate the damn things.

The magnets are the way to go here.

Here they are on Amazon; mine were made in Taiwan, but I don't know what the current COO is. Pretty much any powersports dealer will probably have these

If you don't like magnets, Motion Pro sells a pretty nifty line of "Pro Spark" sockets with I think a spring-based retention system and several access options:

Have you tried cleaning the magnet off?
They sometimes get rust bits and grease stuck on them and that makes it less effective.
