Magnetic Wrench Organizers

Hey folks, have a question for those that have used them. Recently upgraded my main combination wrench sets, and am looking into different organizational methods to clean up the drawer somewhat. The product in question is Ernst Manufacturing 40 tool rails, part number 6015M. Will the magnetic tape that comes with them be strong enough to work over drawer liners?

If it won't work, does anybody have another suggestion that doesn't involve cutting or removing the liners? I'm open to suggestions of other types of wrench holders if these ones aren't the best option for organization, any ideas are welcome. Thanks

I did search first. Couldn't find anything on the magnetic backed ones, just the standard style. If I am missing something please post a link.

Every once in a while it is good to start a new thread on a topic that has been covered before as there are constantly new products coming to the table that won't be included in 10 year old threads.

I'll give you a bump. I have the harbor freight red set holding a set of 7-24mm, and another holding sae, they don't move around, but neither does where they are housed. I have no complaints about them.

The search function here isn’t the greatest. I just google and add garage journal to the end of my query and go from there. There’s also plenty of times it doesn’t cover what I’m wanting to know specifically. So it warrants a fresh post. All that being said, I’ve been trying to figure out how I want to organize my wrench drawer and keep getting paralyzed by the options available now.

FWIW, I use the Ernst low profile organizers and am very happy with them. Not magnetic, but its not necessary either.

Specifically, regarding the 6015M the OP asked about, no, the magnetic tape on the base of these rails is not strong enough to maintain a magnetic bond to a metal drawer through much of any liner (including thin Walmart shelf liner).

That said, unless you're seriously reefing around on your toolbox, they don't easily fall over when they're loaded, and the rare time they do, they're pretty easy to right without having to unload all of the wrenches from them.

Caveat: Where I use them, my toolboxes are stationary, so your mileage may vary.

The Ernst 6015T might be a better option for you, I dunno? It's double-sided tape instead of magnetic tape, so semi-permanent. Unknown how well it bonds to drawer liner material.

This is exactly the reason for making a new thread every once in a while, a product from a company I hadn't even heard about before. I like this idea the best so far, will have to order a few of them to try out!

Nice concept, but doesn't really hold enough wrenches for my application unfortunately.

This is what I needed to know regarding the product I was interested in. Sounds as though just the regular ones would probably stay put well enough since the magnets wouldn't help any over drawer liners. Maybe a dab of RTV sticking it to the drawer liner rather than using the double sided tape. I don't really slam the drawers, and it only gets moved around a few times per month, a fully loaded Epiq rolls surprisingly smooth so tools stay put nicely.

I'm leaning towards giving the widget ones a try rather than the Ernst rails, seems like it would be a better fit since I've got 1/4" to 1-5/8" in standard and 6-36 in metric. Originally figured on just filling up the 20 wrench rails with the smaller sizes and leaving the larger ones loose, but modular would allow me to have a custom rack for all the sizes in one run. Maybe see how it works out for the regular combination wrench sets then organize the other types of wrenches in the drawer similarly with the modular style.
