1. Where do all of you buy your magnets? What kind do I need? I'm looking for some to stick on the lid of my cart to stick extensions and such.

2. Any of you fellow GJers use magnets for socket/wrench organization? Pics or ideas welcome.

Thanks.

I use magnets for little stuff like utility knives, calipers, small tape measure, etc. but I also need a good idea for hanging a speed handle.

I have to stay away for strong magnets. They send my pacemaker into overdrive

Someone here played up these guys: magnet4less.com, but I've never ordered from them. They do seem to have decent prices and selection.

I love magnets. I get 2 blocks for 1.50 at harbor freight. They have two different packaging for them, one says magnets, they other says home crafts magnets, but both kits are identical.

Anyways, I use them to hold my picks on cart:

Used 4 to make a magnetic towel holder out of a wall mount one:

And one holds stuff in my travel box

Any time you run across a dead hard drive break it open and take the magnet out. They are very strong.

I use Magnacraft (Amazon) neodymium magnets when building things (such as simple indicators for my mill, a place to keep the chuck key, etc).

I keep my tools far away from magnets. I really dislike magnetized tools (except for magnetic bit drivers, and the magnet-on-an-extension, for picking up small parts that have dropped.)

I believe this to be best practice; the schmutz that magnetized tools pick-up and redistribute (to places schmutz shouldn't be) is frightening.

I get scrap hard drives for free. Magnets strong enough to hurt you if you get a finger caught between them. The problem is they're fragile. They crack easily if you take them off the metal backing, the chrome flakes off, and any heat at all blanks them.
