So my house is fed by my power shed. In the power shed there is a regular breaker box with a main, then all the legs. My house is fed by a pair of 100 amp breakers. (pinned together)

My question is if this is considered 100 amp service or 200 amp service?

If it's a 100 amp breaker feeding the house, it's a 100 amp service. Many people think that because there are 2 breakers together they add - not so. It's a 100 amp 240 volt service.

That depends- 200a breakers are usually 2 double pole breakers put together. A 100a breaker will just be 1 double pole breaker! It sounds like u may have 200a service! Can u post a picture of the breaker?

You are overthinking this. In the eyes of someone not familiar with things electrical (such as the OP appears to be) the 200 amp main used by GE (GE is about the only one who uses it) is made of FOUR individual 100 amp breakers that are riveted together.

The OP has 100 amp service.

The 1st company to do that was ITE (now Siemens) back in the 1970's, Cutler-Hammer also did it w/ the CH all in ones, in addition to GE. The breaker is still marked as a 200A.

Here is a picture of it. It is a pair of 100 amps, black wire through one, red wire through the other, so I think it is only 100 amp service.

Hard to see in the pictures, but the 2, 20 amp ones on the bottom right are shut off becuase they were arcing where they push over the bar, and the bar is erroded away. I am in the works of installing a new 40 space Square D in the next couple weeks.

I said it like that because the way he described it, it sounded like he may have 200a service. That's why I went into detail about the # of breaker poles! But I was wrong! Just the reason pics are better than a description!

Man, that's a sketchy panel with neutral bars so close to the breakers!

YUP, the panel is a POS! I've never seen anything like it in any house I have lived in. I think someone tried to save a few bucks when it was installed. Well it did, but now its going to cost me several hundred to have it replaced!

What brand panel is that? I've never seen anything like it either! The breakers are westinghouse, which are garbage IMHO- the 90a westinghouse breaker feeding my house just melted a few months back!

Have a look at the second picture I posted. That is all the info I could find. "NOVA" is the brand.

Many "brand" name panels take the "BR" (Bryant) style of breaker. Think of it as

a generic style, rather than propietary style, where panel and c/b need to be of

the same mfg. Be glad you don't have Federal Pacific, or Zinsco equipment to

name a few of the "better" ones.

Thx Bob! That was the other name I couldn't get off the tip of my tongue!

Yeah Federal Pacific- a fire waiting to happen. At least Zinsco was U/L listed, but yeah still POS or POG(Pile of Garbage)!
