I work as a maintenance tech in a pretty large factory. We probably stamped or made something in any of your cars. My job is very eclectic, from fabrication to plc troubleshooting and programming and everything in between.

Just wondering what everyone else in the field lugs around with them.

This pouch is always on me for any little thing I am doing. In it is a pair of Knipex 10 inch Alligators and dies, a channellock 6 in 1, a channel lock 8 inch adjustable, my Craftsman led magnetic light, my Gerber and one loto lock and an 1/8 inch Craftsman flathead.

When I get a call to a machine then this goes with me. Wiha insulated screwdrivers, electrical tape of 4 different colors, Craftsman multimeter, elkind standard and metric ball head hex keys, brass hammer, 10 inch Knipex Pliers Wrench and Cobras, channellock wire stripper, Irwin automatic wire stripper, Stanley Tape, Gearwrench 4 in one reversible ratcheting box Wrench one is 3/8 - 7/16 and the other 1/2 - 3/4, Craftsman 12 inch prybar, Richard 12 inch striking prybar and snap on magnetic work light and two more loto locks.

All my other tools are locked up in this guy and gotten as needed, but my pouches cover 75% of my work.

How about everyone else?

Not sure if this counts or not but I put this together to fix package cars when they are parked as they are a PITA to get out and pull over to the shop for small jobs. Love it! It's just a husky solid bag but so far is holding up great! When this one is done I'll upgrade to something better. I wasn't sure how well this would work out but has proven to be very good!
Packed full of common tools. Only thing I add is sockets depending on the job.

You can tell the difference between plant maintaince, electrictans and jeep mechanics at my work by what they carry. Maintaince guys carry tool bags. Electrictans have tool belts and us jeep mechanics carry tote trays.

Here is what I grab first and it will usually works for 95 percent of normal maintenance stuff. If this doesn't work the kits keep getting bigger and bigger.

+1. I carry a sharpie, pen, Streamlight, steel rule, and a notepad. Everything else lives in my box or office and is used as needed.

I just can't stand carrying a bag full of **** I only need 1% of. I much prefer seeing what's wrong and then bringing the appropriate tools (or entire cart).

When I am doing maintenance duty at out buildings, I usually carry 6" Linesman pliers and a 4-in-1 screwdriver. Maybe a couple of yellow wire nuts. And a pocket knife. Flashlight app on my phone. That works for me 99% of the time.

In a 350,000 Sq foot plant you may have to walk a quarter of a mile back to your box.

It's Christmas all year in the maintainence shop! The square d boxes are behind an aisle. There is a mezzanine above the maintainence shop with a tool crib in it.

Serious question, as i'm getting into a similar job such as yours starting Monday morning. I'll find out then, but i'll ask now and get your opinion. If you use a tool belt for most of your work, why do you have such a large tool box? Special tools? Empty space and a good deal on the box? Uncommon stuff that you need but don't use everyday? I've been an auto mechanic for 16 years and decided to flip the dealerships the finger so I have more than enough tools.

Nope, I'd rather not say. We have everything from 2000 ton transfer presses to 1000 tin progs, robotic mig cells, robotic laser welding cells, hydroform presses, paint and powder coat line, robotic laser cutters, resistance welding of all shapes and sizes. Our biggest product is the hydroformed roof rails which are laser and resistance welded with the entire a and b columns for the Ford Mustang. If you drive a Ford or Chevy truck and have a factory hitch receiver we made that too. Tons of other stuff as well from oil and transmission pans and aluminum exhaust heat shields. We make a lot and it's cool to see what we do.

I do not have a pouch I have a bucket. A old connoco gear oil bucket.

At work we have company provided tool boxes on golf carts. I typically have the majority of whats needed in there. But my "go to" bucket can handle most normal PMs and minor repairs.

Inside are my fluke clamp, and fluke multi meter, I have a Klien and southwire voltage beeper, lockouts on the handle, elkind folding allen sets, a klein bag full of miscellaneous wire nuts and crimp fittings, a pair of Klien wire strippers, a Stanley 99, channelock crimpers, a set of klein linesmans, channelock needle nose, a 10'' crescent, a 12'' crescent, 1/2 socket set up to 1 1/2'', SK tuff 18'' flex, SK standard 1/2'', miscellaneous screwdrivers of many makes, channelocks and Knipex pliers, select open end wrenches, usually what I use the most in PM's which are 1 1/16, 7/8, 3/4, 9/16, and 1/2''. Also have a rail with allen sockets SK SAE, Vaughan 16oz ball pein hickory handle, Craftsman prybars and vasoline, also I have NAPA silglide and assorted Loctite pastes, leather gloves, and nitrile gloves. I think at the bottom there are also a set of True value/pratt read stubby screwdrivers, oh and my favorite pliers my tiny channelocks.

Ofcours I don't have any fancy pants bucket lanyard, that's for newbs. there is also a 100ft rope for when I have to lower my bucket into confined spaces. that rope is permanentally attached to the bucket.

Because I still need the stuff in there for the other 10%.

I have 3 bags that I use on regularly.

IMG_4114.jpg
This is my every day 90% bag. Only thing not included in this photo is my m12 impact driver. I bounce between the Klein 11 in 1 and a felt smart driver.

IMG_4118.jpg
This is my meter trouble shooting bag has my meter, and HVAC and Electrical testing stuff.

This is my cart bag, I think it is 50 lbs so it stays on my rubbermaid utility cart with my JC-10 compressor. It has pretty much everything else I might need but if it is not in this bag it is in the 56" tool chest. I'll maybe post that and spread out pictures of my cart bag if people are interested.

I'm an electrician, and I will use either a tool belt/pouch or a tote depending on the job. Right now I'm kind of bouncing around so I just take my pouch and add whatever else I might need and throw it on the cart.
