Hey guys. Quick question. I have an ir2135 qti that I use daily. I oil it every other day and grease it every few weeks. Someone I work with had the nose section of his Matco branded gun break and got it replaced. When he reassembled it he said he put a thin film of grease on the internals and that was it. The gun puts out a lot more power with less grease, but will it suffer wear? How do you guys maintain your guns?

I use an Earthquake daily at my shop. I oil it in the morning and in the afternoon, never any problems. My IR231 wasn't the same story. Ran fine for about a year and then pooped on me. Never bothered fixing it or replacing it because it had so much less power than my Earthquake (but geesh that thing is heavy!)

Grease it. Just fed it ATF once every few days. I bought the ir oil and grease kit.

i used to maintain my air tools,
few drops of oil daily in my most used stuff, and greased the ones that needed grease, every fri afternoon.

i dont use my air tools much anymore since i do mostly field work.
my new 231 gets oil & grease once in a while now.

I used my Matco and Craftsman 1/2" and 3/8" guns for four years before taking them apart and greasing them. Before that I only oiled them once a day, if that.

They still work perfectly fine. And my shop's air could be described as liquid.

my grandfathers compressor at home shoots whitish water out of my guns exhaust, so i oil it before i use it and then at work the next day. Never had a drop of water at work though. So less grease, more oil? I just want it to perform at its peak and i hear a million different things. IR says to grease every 40 hrs of work and oil once a day

I oil the hell out of my Mac (Nitrocat 1200K), in the morning before work, after lunch and a couple drops before I leave.

I have IR impact gun. IR sells a grease gun. Is their a recomendation on the type of grease to use other than the IR product. Also how do you know when you have greased enough. Thanks

There was a lot of different greases tested before chosing the IR105 and IR115 greases. If you want to maximaize the time between greases use one of those or IR170 which is even better yet. If you are regreasing the tool through the fitting you need 4cc of 115. If you disassemble the tool and clean out the old grease you should use 10 cc of 105.
