Make a large tripod.

Looking for ideas how to make a large tripod (or 4 legs) that meets the following needs:
1. it's at least 10 feet of the ground, 15 would be better
2. Affix this plate to top: It's 12 " in diameter. That would be the top of the tripod.

Looking mostly for ideas how to affix 2x2 or 2x4's to the metal (steel) ring. Some kind of bracket, hinge, anything. Welding is fine.

Back in Scout camp, just a few years ago, we used to lash three de-limbed trees together to form a tripod. 3 L-brackets that have been suitably bent could be attached to your ring and then screwed to the wood. More information about your end goal will allow better responses.

Yes, I should have been a bit more specific. Lowering 4 inch pvc well casing pipes. Hence the ring on top. Pipes are 5m. The pipes will be lowered by a hoist attached to the ring.

Maybe some rectangular tubing that will fit over your lumber, welded at the right angle?

Use strap hinges to the legs. Gives you adjustment for the leg spread/rise. How much weight will this see?

Theoretically, up to 400 lbs, realistically probably half as much. Could you link to a hinge like that?

Three lengths of pipe. One end of each leg flattened, then drilled to accept a long bolt or length of threaded rod. With the 3 legs loosely bolted together, the other ends can be spread out to form the tripod. Attach your lifting device to the bolt/rod.

Hoisted many engines with such a simple contraption.

I made one out of 3 landscape timbers Joined at the top with i-bolts (if I remember right) and used ibolts and a length of chain attached around to each leg halfway up to keep the legs from spreading.

I made a tripod to use to hoist wind generators onto my truck or trailer. I used three 2x4s 12 feet long, fairly good ones. and they were held together at the top by a piece of 1/2" threaded rod about a foot long, that went through holes drilled a few inches from the ends of the 2x4s. I put a big washer on each side of each 2x4, and nuts on the outside ends. A loop of steel cable or a length of chain went over the threaded rod to provide something for my come-along to hook onto, down far enough so I could reach it. I could spread the 2x4 legs far enough apart to get my small trailer under the tripod. I used it to load Jacobs and WindPower wind turbines that weight 300 to 400 pounds and never had any problems with it--although I was hesitant the first time I used it, wondering it would take the weight.
I'm not able to find any pictures of it at the moment.
