That is pretty neat, but how did you pour the aluminum in the back of the plastic tray without melting it????:lol_hitti

How much does the aluminum tray weigh? is it solid or shelled?

if its real, its very cool. Second pic almost looks like a couple spots were the silver paint wore through and you can see the original black plastic though. The thin lip on the backside also doesn't scream cast to me.

You could do that through lost wax casting. Maybe make one hard copy and then do one in vacuum-formed carbon fiber???

I thought they looked spray painted as well.....

You should post a "how to" on the aluminum casting. That is something I have always wanted to learn to do. I would make a custom aluminum ratchet and polish it.

if you were to make a few mods to that one that you have...
stamp numbers into it, thin out the thick sections and smooth the finish a little. I would suspect you have a sellable product

another idea for some of you guys would be to recast your trays in an epoxy resin

bob

Why "re-cast"? Just fill the back of the existing tray(s) with resin. It will add strength and stability.

Those aluminum casting remind me of high school shop class. We use to pour cast aluminum all the time. It was real cool. This was 35 years ago and we used a clay like casting substance to make the mold. Sure was fun.
