Using the engraving pencil to put a cast finish texture on the repair is genius! I'm going to have to add that to the bag of tricks. Hmm, I wonder if a needle scaler would also work?
A needle scaler works on cast iron. It might be too aggressive on aluminum.

I have no affiliation to PrimeWeld other than I bought one. I happened to catch the welder in the video.

A needle scaler works on cast iron. It might be too aggressive on aluminum.
It works fine on cast aluminum, just turn it down. I have done lots of similar repairs on cast aluminum. Last one was a matching numbers 67 427 corvette alternator case with a mounting ear broke off. After needle scaling I bead blast.
