Separate locked tool boxes and work on separate ends of a vehicle:bounce:.Seriously though, I know some people that give their wrenches and sockets and common tools a quick blast of spray paint. It works and it can always be removed. Tape will just keep peeling off and become a hassle. Good Luck.

Paint is probably the best; can be removed without hurting the tools; maybe a red stripe or blue on the handle will make identification that much easier ..

Have a cool looking set of Snap-On wrenches. Someone painted them red, then wiped off the excess paint on the wrench surface before the paint dried. This left only the paint in the Snap-On and the wrench size depressions still on the wrench, highlighting them in red.

Thats a cool way to do it, Most newer tools don't have the deep impressions that older tools do though. My dad tried this with his gearwrenches and ended up just spraying the ends because the markings were to shallow.

In our garage my dad has a funny dark blue or purple for his tools and I have satin olive or OD.

I stamp some of my tools. I got a small 1/8" stampimg set form harbor freight, I dont stamp my initials or anything like that i usually use the X and mark it in a "natural looking " spot

father-in-law sprayed his orange. and wiped off some of them. he also sprayed most of his stuff orange. He was a GC; so road blocks, concrete forms, wheelbarrows, power tools, ramps, jacks, toolboxes, etc... If there was room, he'd put a little sign on it that said: "It's not yours, put it back."

I do the laquer stick/grease pencil/white out trick in the stampings to highlight the sizes but not for ID.
