Macker: nice start to the thread. If you maybe can go in and edit your pictures with a space in between each one maybe they'll line up on top of each other so easier to view. in any case that is amazing work that you've done so far and wishing you the best.

remember to take pictures daily or often to have ready to post so we can see and you can have a record later once you are finished to show you and your friends the process.

was the green tank for water or do tell and was it hard to move?

good luck

Macker: you are getting closer. you still need a space between the first few and also that sentence you added is pushing over a picture so keep trying. ask questions if you can't get it like you want it. also i think you forgot a letter in your name in the title or did you mean to say Makers garage? if you can't edit the thread title yourself and want to just PM (private message) a Mod and let them know you want to change to Maker's so you'll have it right.

good luck and nice thinking moving the oil tank. you put a garage where most of the normal people wouldn't have had a clue that one could go there.

Welcome to the forum. It's also a good idea to put your location in your profile. I'm guessing around Burton on Trent from the number on the dumper. Thats a lot of soil to shift. Not seen that method of retaining wall before.

Macker: somebody said a good mason can put them in almost as fast as you can hand him the bricks and looks like you have a good man and helper. or are you the helper?

in any case it looks awesome. i have a question on what you are thinking about doing in the space between the new garage walls and your retaining walls. also what did you fill in between the retaining wall and the dirt?

are you putting in tresses or a flat roof?

keep up the great progress and take lots of pictures.

thanks

The retaining wall is really interesting. Not something you would see here in the US. We would form up and place steel reinforced concrete with a waterproof membrane on the outside backfilled with a drain tile, gravel, and then earth. These retaining walls would also be the interior walls as well. Expensive but that is the only way our trades know how to do it. Materials and techniques like the ones you used are viewed with suspicion by builders and code enforcers here.

Macker: i agree it's different than what we are used to building. that's why i was asking for pictures of behind the retaining wall so i could see it. i'm guessing you had to get a permit. yes??

i'm excited that you will soon under cover to work in your garage and take lots of pictures to post if you are able.

cheers

Macker: looks like the roof will get on before the rainy season starts. just curious what the dirt is for on the floor inside the garage? i saw it on your last post with your Beemer in the garage and was going to ask then.

also can you take and post a few pictures of the area between the dirt and your retaining walls? I think you are filling them back up with dirt?

good luck and looking good so far.

Macker: are you sloping front to back or side to side for drainage? gutters planned or just letting it hit the dirt?

i have a flat roof on my house and had a new one put on 2500 square feet for about $4,000 20 years ago and roofer just painted it with some thick stuff for another $500 and said i probably have another 10 years left on it. I walk on mine several times a year too. if you paint on the stuff on a new roof and don't walk on it much or at all you might get 30+ years out of yours.

good luck

Macker: the guys working for you look like they know what they are doing. i know your garage might have just started feeling a bit smaller, but I bet you are happy to see the roof going on.

good luck and looks great.

The garage floor isn't level, I'm debating what to do and when finish. Can I use selv levelling cement as a finished surface??

Macker: i would have thought you might have poured a new floor before starting your build if it wasn't level and you needed it to be that. i'm not sure what to tell you about products especially over in your side of the pond so kicking up your thread to see if another member might have an answer for you. if it drains out the door i'd be happy and if it drains to the back i might put in a drain to tie into the pipe you put outside next to the pad.

good luck and will the roof be done this week? are you putting up gutters or did i ask that already?

cheers

Macker.. I'm also in the UK and thinking about those Costco units. Looks like there's a few suppliers on eBay... although some with what I suspect is a huge markup!

I'm contacting the supplier via Alibaba... especially as they do quite a nice looking 96" version!

Let me know if you do get the Costco one as i'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it as my local one doesn't have any stock for me to look at. If you're interested in the other versions from the supplier...

Let me know if you think you might want one as maybe we can sort out some shipping between us?

Your garage is shaping up nicely. I'm not sure self leveling cement is suitable for a top coat. I'd want it several inches thick. I am not an expert by any means when it comes to concrete but you might look at cleaning/etching the existing concrete, applying a bonding agent, and then placing a 3" or 4" thick concrete slab on top. The concrete slab in my neighbors garage failed, the surface was "burned" from to much power troweling and lifted. The fix was a fresh slab on top of the original slab. Easiest and most cost effective of the options available here.
