You could put tar up there instead of glass or sharp points. You could even extend a board slightly up over the top of your existing fence with roofing tar on the sides and top so people could see it before attempting to climb.

Do you have any vine plants that grow well in your area? We have invasive ones that can make it to the top of a 6' fence in 3 years. My original intention was to do a few runs of stainless cable above the fence and train the ivy to continue upward. I just never got around to it.

I was in Cancun 2 weeks ago, and saw a wall with glass shards on top of it along the highway that was put up around a very expensive all inclusive resort. I wonder if it more Jaguar protection than anything else. A person would just throw a blanket over it/break off the glass.

That makes sense, the wall around our family's house is pure people deterrent. There are no predatory animals really. Blanket would work, but no issues yet.

I was thinking back to a recent jobsite visit I took. There was a prison facility nearby. The fence left an impression on me as I hadn't saw anything quite like it. Curved inwards with razor wire on the top inside, electrified and cameras for good measure.

I didn't snap a pic, but took a screen cap off Google Earth for you.

Spray it with used gear oil.

a buddy had issues with neighbouring kids climbing his fence to get on the roof of his shop, he complained to their parents who just laughed, so he sprayed the fence and back of the shop with the contents of the waste oil drum - engine oil, brake fluid, gear oil. Suddenly the parents were really motivated to control their kids
I did something similar to that, but I put dog "poop" all along the bottom. You may not catch them in the act, but it's easier to track them. Only the real dumb ones are repeat offenders.

Good side...Bad side...I think it actually looks like **** to put 'the good side' in. But I'm about continuity and the normal proper way to do things...

If you cut the 2x4 standing up, then the cut you suggest is less than 45 degrees....
One pas half the way through, flip it over and finish the cut.....

Not sure what the issue is

Or cover that side with lattice, that stuff is fragile so it may be a deterrent to climbing

^^^ The OP asked about that in the OP. I did that once. Didn't work as well as I hoped. I treated the ripped edge and while it was very slippery at first, 1/2 way through the summer it was dried out. Then, even I, at age 40, could put a toe it and get over the 6' fence. (And I'm only 5'6".)

People scale the border “Wall” boondoggle on a fairly regllar basis.

Municipal regulations and common courtesy say the pickets go on the outside of a fence,

When we were kids, my friends and I used to jump a community fence to go swimming. Kids can climb anything. Even if it's pretty tall, you just flip over a garbage can and hop over.
I would move if I had to worry about people trying to steal my utilities.

Talk with your insurance agent and see what your exposure is if it was stolen... some of these suggestions come with costs and risks that may exceed your deductible.

My fence to help the woofers know a boundary. GSD woofing alarms are wonderful at keeping curious climbers out

Back in my college dorm days, we had a large 8' high metal gate that provided an opening between 12' block walls that secured the dorm area. The gate was right outside our dorm suite, and it was locked promptly at 10pm daily. This required any visitors to detour to the main secured entrance several hundred yards away.

Well the local pizza delivery guys decided that late night pizza orders were easier to deliver by hopping over the lock gate. This resulted in lots of late night clanging noise as they scaled the high gate. After being woken up one too many times, a liberal application of never seize, axle grease, and powdered graphite to the top rail of the gate solved the issue! We had a good time watching the first few idiots jump up to scale the gate and stomp away in frustration looking like a tin man!

I see the issue has been resolved, but...
Speaking from local experience only, may need to comply with local codes (height limit, good side out).
Anything not obvious (like concertina wire) that injures someone might get you in trouble.
Broken glass tops are the norm in Central and South America, but a second line of defense is a Doberman or two (as told to me by someone from Brazil).
I like the used oil idea. Add some penetrating oil so they can stink too.
A good solution is a big dog. Knew a guy with a German shepherd that tore the pant's *** off a prowler as he was trying to escape.

Recent reports from our Southern Border have demonstrated that 31 foot fences can be climbed. We are hearing about the injuries and occasional deaths of those who have climbed the fence.

If the pickets alternated on both sides of the fence I think it would be more difficult to climb. Like this:

That's called a 'shadow box' fence, and it's what I had installed between me and the neighbor. His side faces an open pasture, but IF he ever decides to build a house there, we both have 'good' sides. I went with that style because I think it looks better than a 'wall' of fence and allows for the wind to pass through.chevy wheels (1).JPGchevy wheels (1).JPG
