I think I want to build a round barn one day. This is in the distant future. It would have a center jib crane and be probably 25' in radius. Anyone have any pictures of a round barn interior set up for working?

How awesome would it be to look up and see this?:

I think it would be cool.

I remember seeing pictures of a round car garage somewhere on the internet a couple years ago, I think it was full of early Corvettes. They were parked all around the perimeter, so you could stand in the center of the circle and see the front end of each car.

Built in 1898 and destroyed by fire (accident, electrical) in 2002.

Family has owned it since 1914 and they say they will rebuild but it has been 8 years and even if they had money some say that the craftsmend don't even exist that could do this.

There was a link to it posted here on GJ. I sort of remember that the Vets had the second floor of the structure and it had a bunch of stone or brick exterior. Beautiful and expensive! Hope someone has better directions to its location on the net.

building one post and beam wouldnt be too bad
building one clear span to be able to use a central jib crane will cost more per sq-ft that to build one rectangular

It would have a center post.

I think cost would not be TOO bad because I would build it myself. It would be timbertframed. :)

Just dreamin'!

I did take the center post into account
what I whas thinking was that as the roof beams come together
you will have an excess of suprots at the center and the correct spacing at the edges
if you do the math you will have the same amount of roofing support with less roof
add in the matherial waste from fitting.

while it would be cool, it will cost more per sq-ft

I see your point, but at the same time, for a given SF, there is less wall/roof to build.

I think the labor and the lack of right angles would ad to the cost.
Supposedly they were cheaper WAY back when.

If I were to build the shop of my dreams, it would not be standard construction anyway. It would be timberframed. It is going to be expensive.

I don't know...find you some Amish fellas. They'll have that thing built to the hilt in no time flat...
