making a security gate for the volunteer warehouse.
When nice weather hits we leave the doors open to get ventilation, but the front door is hidden from us when we're in the back. Never used to matter much but we now have computers, telephones etc in the office/kitchen. There's a gate hook on it that keeps it open about 8" but the hook is easily reached from outside and unhooked.
Going to use some repurposed display racks that one of the neighbors was tossing out. I didn't get before pictures but I spent an hour or so cutting them apart . It's thin wall 1" square tube . Also using some 3/4" balusters that were left over from a job for cross rails .
laid out and drilled the side rails so the balusters fit inside the tube, will get tack welded . part of the display had the arches , I plan to use one to dress up the top .
It's a work in progress with no drawings, no anticipated results, just a plan in my head . It might end up in total failure too.
here's a picture of the basic layout so far.

having trouble with pictures right now

Is this a man-door? Something that might play into this, is if its a fire door. You might have to be careful in regard to any latches etc. Just throwing it out there as one place I worked got nailed for having locked security screens over open firedoors in the summer. They removed the screens and closed the doors. It sucked.

Yeah, your means of egress need to provide a way out without a lock. Why not a screen door w/the alarm, like you said? No lock, but an audible alert that someone has entered. You could add a flashing light if you have machine tools or other loud equipment.
