You seem to find some of the coolest stuff and get to have tons of fun. Your comments about your truck are spot on. I commented on a Jeep yesterday that was driving through a puddle in a parking lot. I laughed and told my wife it looked like that was the most off roading that Jeep had ever done. It amazes me how many people have lifted trucks around here with no mud or even dirt ever on them.

Thank you, I am having a lot of fun... Shane is helping me with projects, I really enjoy teaching him about working on stuff.

Ooh! This is relevant to my interests!

Between the gidle and the windage tray with the slots, is your oil scraping taken care of? What's the clearance between crank and rods and those scraper tabs in the windage tray? And the girdle?

Are those oil pan studs standard diameter, and going through to the standard female holes in the block?

Also, I like the look of freeze plugs that haven't been painted.

I like the shed addition! I could live in that! We can now call you Sean... "Two Sheds"... Gaskin.

_

LOL thanks! Its actually 5 sheds if you count the ones at my little house:beer:

I am not sure the exact specs on the clearance between the rotating parts and the tray I just know it all clears. This was built by my engine pro in Ohio named Gary Paine. It is being shipped to Canada soon and then we can look into a crank scraper to further control the oil. Should be a nice setup.

Some look at that picture and see bright yellow Corvette. I look at it and see a W126 chassis Mercedes that needs a good home before the Bosch CIS injection system gums up. (OK, maybe it's a diesel, but I'd like to think 560SEL.)

_

Yes is is a 560 SEL but there is some ignition issue and none of us know what to do with it so it sits.

The forums to run around in/beg for help are Peach Parts and BenzWorld.

My gut reaction is, "It's the EZL!" But I have no memory of what that acronym is, and my only experience is my W124, which is slightly more modern. I won't say anything is lacking with my mid-sized chassis, but those S classes were built to a high standard, they did not screw around. (OK, the timing chains need some tending to once in a while...that's about it...)

There is a boatload of acronyms for various relays and such. They lived on their own little mountaintop back then. Bosch came and visited sometimes, but... they used their own names for things.

More later.

In addition to the forums at Peach Parts and Benzworld that I mentioned, this is a good wiki for the older MBz DIY'er.

http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/DoItYourSelf

(It could be a much better wiki, but I'm just glad it's got what it's got.)

And how could I forget? Kent Bergsma! He dispenses older Mercedes maintenance and repair wisdom nonstop on his youtube channel:

Got my tires mounted and balanced, these are for dyno use only so I don't trash my drag tires on the rollers:

15X12 Steel rim with 295/50R15 BFG Notice how I used a nice wide rim to make a really wide flat contact patch... Put these on some 15X8 rims and you get far less contact patch:

Those are some huge tires!

On another subject, it's awesome that you find all those cool deals!
That seems like alot of fun!

Thanks guys for stopping by... I'm getting a lot done and will post up pics as soon as I have a chance.... I'm seriously looking into options for building a garage at the little house... Looking at 26x26x12 tall maybe steel building, stick frame or pols barn style....

Had a family vacation and had our first father/son project! We built this shelter for my mother in law's lawn tractor... Complete with a wood base so that it does not blow away in the wind. Shane helped with hammering some nails, screwing screws and anything else he could pick up LOL!

Shane added 3 trucks to the garage:

VIDEO of the trucks

Check out this garage! Not too big but look at the boat launch my mom and dad have in their back yard! They bought this place on the lake recently so it was nice to visit. Private boat launch and dock!

Ric, it is about a 8 hour drive to my parents... Or 5 hours in a fast Buick LOL!

Might take this old beast next time! LOTS of room!!

Had 9 puppies out at the little house!

Using the rig in the back of my Chevy 3/4 ton to get the seized brakes off my $200 1988 Daytona which is a turbocharged fast little car... A few easy fixes and will sell it... Sold the stepside truck for a huge profit and pickup the RAMP TRUCK next week!

Found an old Buick Skylark for parts, $200:

Pulled it into my lot with the tractor:

I don't think any one of us could keep up with the number of cars, trucks, and engines you have coming in and out of your place. Great job on the finds.

I ran into a guy who I had sold a 350 to a few months back and he says he got it in his beater truck and is having a great old time 4x4ing the truck without worry about damage!

More fun with the RC trucks!

I agree. Every post is something new or sold. It's great that you can buy and sell that quickly. I usually see people take awhile to flip their finds. It seems like you can't find them quick enough.

The key is setting the price right, and having a good sales pitch with the advertisement on the used stuff websites.

For vehicles wheels and tires are the key, for example that step side truck with winter tires was not super cool looking but I added some different rims and wide tires and it looked great!

I post lots of good pictures, give lots of information, and often deliver the items or vehicles to people's houses. Another super good tip is to re-post the add each day and you get much more hits in the first day or two of the add being posted... Old stale adds don't get seen.

Well the tow truck turned into car hauler project is coming along!

I am setting this up to haul smaller vehicles and my light Buick Skylark (2980 Pounds), it will not be able to haul larger vehicles and trucks but that is fine.

My Skylark is 16.4 feet long and the deck is 15 feet long so a slight overhang but not much. The wheel base of the car is 9.3 feet and I have 12.5 feet of actual flat deck. The front bumper can extend past the front of the deck a little bit, there is some room before the rack behind the cab.

We will beef up the rear suspension, once we see how it sits loaded up. WE may need to build some long ramps but my friend and I can handle that, all the heavy duty fabrication work is done. Currently we have two 5 foot ramps that connect to the flip down ramps but we may need longer ones.

What to do if you get bored? Scan the on line adds for an amazing deal!

Got this 1999 Yukon Denali 4x4 for $300 as it does not run and needs a windshield... Should have it up and running in a few days with any luck.... And to properly flip a vehicle you need to add some nice rims and tires. Found these for low $ since they look so funny in that color! Painting them, mount and balance and will be cool.

Nothing new on the Buick just leaving it alone while waiting for the new baby to get here. The next step for the car is completing the good engine, dyno testing it without boost then swapping it into the car this winter.

Leaving a project alone waiting for a baby to arrive, that's a bit dangerous isn't it? :) No worries Sean, keep us updated. I think you might need longer ramps for your car carrier, that approach angle is a little steep!

Thanks, yes the angle is too steep when tilted. The plan is to leave it flat to load and use longer ramps to make good transition. We just left the tilt function because it's kind of cool and it was already there. There is a secure lock to keep the deck from tilting or bouncing while driving. Just need to dial in the ramp length and make them store well on the unit.

The Yukon is running, still some things to do before I sell it... Painted the rims silver, they came out nice... Need to get the tires mounted and balanced still. Might be trading the Yukon for an engine and trans that I sold in my old Buick. About $8000 worth of stuff for the Yukon that I have about $1000 into.

Well things are coming together with the car hauler project it is 95% done I just need to finish up a few details like fine tuning the ramps, and then adding some air bags to help carry the load when hauling. There are spare ramps secured at the rear of the deck as well to help with low cars.

And the 88 Daytona is FAST! The boost is raised up on the turbo and it is a nice little car! Going to sell it though once I have it fully fixed up:

Just a suggestion of a way to reduce some of the angle. This is what I did to a 86 Daully I stretched about 6'. We started the bend right at the rear axle, then again just after the rear spring hanger. He wanted to get a low car up with a minimum of stress. The air bags raise the rear (at the wheels) about 3 inches. But the tires wont hit the body (pic of chassis on bump stops)

It is even easier when he has the tilt trailer I built for him attached, it holds a 61 Caddie.

Well I had to re-think the car hauler project I was starting with the wrong vehicle....

1. I need more than a 1 ton truck to make a safe car hauler
2. I need a longer wheelbase for that deck
3. I do not need 4x4 this is for street use only and mainly in the summer hauling vehicles around
4. A diesel engine with a turbo would be much more efficient than the 460 gas

So I removed the deck and the tilt mechanism, have a buyer for the truck, and bought this truck! 2000 E-450 with a 16 foot cube.... About 15,000 pound Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) so I will be far under that with my car on the deck. 7.3 TURBO diesel should work well. Removing the cube and making it an engine shed in my yard and putting my nice deck on there. I ended up money ahead on this so all is well!

Removing the cube, adding my deck and the electric winch. Will keep the tilt mechanism for the deck... The deck will be much lower than the other truck and that will help loading as well.

How is the cabin finished off on this one? Do you have to remake the centre section of the walk thru? You could make this a low sleeper and make the deck a slight ramp style, using the tilt work to make the rear section tilt down to load and back to horizontal to transport.

Hi terrick, good idea.

Yes there is a step through between the cab and box so I will need to close that back off once the box is removed. The plan is to just close off the opening, insulate and seal it up and then add a heavy duty rack to both protect the cab and also cover up the patch job at the back of the cab. We have a really nice alum rack from a semi truck that we are cutting up to fit.

I thought about a sleeper but I wouldn't use it....
