It was down to -34 today but it did not take long for the heater to get the garage back up to a nice temp. after I pulled the SUV out to make room to work on the Skylark...

The new job is going well, but averaging 30-40 hours of overtime each week so it has been tiring.... It should settle down in Jan.

Holy christ! It was plus 9 hear today. Can't believe your snow accumulation already. Nice to be toasty in the garage with that heater. Well done! And your little guy is looking Uber cute.

Oh! Yew lucky bastid! A daylight sighting? Range?

The way you said it is close to the common, adamant statement by witnesses, "I know what I saw!"

And then people say, "Hey, bears stand up sometimes. You probably just saw that.(You drunk/idiot/hillbilly/city slicker/stoner/New Ager/fool.)"

Here's a vid of a black bear who's taken to walking. They do this when injuries force them to.

Silly, eh?

Sean, my jaw literally dropped when I read that you are selling the Skylark. I mean who in their right mind would trade this V V V

for this V V V

The better question to ask is.... WHO WOULDN'T????

Man I know that was a TOUGH decision to make!! But you know, life is simpler than you think, because it all boils down to this...you know what's right and what's wrong. DO THE RIGHT THING, there is no other choice. Shane Buick will probably want to kick your **** someday for selling it but something tells me he will still grow up with a Buick, maybe not this one but a Buick for sure. Good luck with the sell but I really don't think you need any luck selling, hell the engine and ****** are worth the asking.

If you would like I will help spread the word to all my Buick buds.

I completely understand your decision to sell the Skylark. I did the same thing twenty+ years ago when I sold my Puma GTC as the wife and I were trying to start a family. Well the daughter is out of the house and as luck would have it the car found me a couple of months ago and will be back in my garage in mid January. So enjoy the Kid and his toys while you have the opportunity and you can go back to playing with your toys later in life.

Good luck with the sale if it's what you really need to do... But personally I'd recommend holding off unless you need the cash right now. You'll have the time / money / motivation to work on it again at some point, and it can be a great thing to do with your kids as they grow up. My Dad tried to sell his MGA when I was a baby. Everyone in our family is very glad that he didn't, growing up around the car and the car club is some of the best memories and closest interests we all share. I bet if you ask around you will find a lot of people you know who sold up their cars when they had kids and regret it down the track. Anyway, just a thought, but good luck if you need to sell for whatever reason.

Don't worry guys this is actually a good thing! I am not short on money, it is just that I do not have the time to do everything that I want to do with the Skylark....

So the reason I am selling the Skylark is to buy a car that is complete and ready to run. This Skylark I am buying was also built by Mark Burton who built my car! Here it is, 2987 Pounds and 900 HP, turn key ready to rock:

I am working to secure the deal on the above car before I let go of my current Skylark!

Here is the story about how my good friend Mark Burton built this car over the years... I tried to buy it at the time he sold it but the timing was wrong and I missed out on it. Now the guy who bought his car finds the 900 HP a little touchy on the street so he is selling it to me:

Video just before he sold it:

An older video but it sounds good back then too:

No worries... The car came from the USA so it needs an out of country inspection to be insured... Not a big deal just needs to be disclosed to potential buyers.

Thanks! Makes sense. Probably more common in the project car market. Can't believe your gonna be rocking a 900lb beast!

Well the Skylark has not sold yet but a guy is driving up from a few hours away in a few days so wish me luck!

I almost have enough cash to buy the other Skylark even without the money from my first one... But I need the room so it still has to go!!!

I have been working 7 days a week 12 hour days, and still finding the time to dig up extra stuff I do not need and sell it to raise money towards the new Skylark... Sold 3 Chevy engines, 4 transmissions, my spare lawnmower, and some other stuff....

 Put that away Sean, don't you have banks there?

Back in the mid-'80s (OK, so I'm old), I bought a Chevy from a guy that didn't want his wife knowing about any of his transactions - so I had to draw $8k out of the bank so that I could pay him in cash.
At the time, I usually carried about 300 - 500 (mainly to be "swap meet ready"), but never that much - needless to say I was checking my pocket about every 30 seconds.

Edit - I just remembered, it was actually $8200 - because that was the exact amount that he needed to buy a Mercury Cougar that he wanted (also cash, so his wife wouldn't know the value).

In the United States it turns out carrying large amounts of cash is dangerous. Yes, a criminal could steal your money but it's just as likely that a state or federal law enforcement person will take the money from you under "civil asset forfeiture" laws.

The laws were written to fight drug traffickers but it has morphed into something else. A man was stopped for speeding and the cop asked if he had cash in the car. He said yes, he had $20,000 in cash to pay for a car he won on an eBay auction. The cop took the money and the guy has to go to court to prove the money was not being used to buy drugs. Now it's guilty until proven innocent.

The money is normally used to buy weapons and high-tech gear for police departments but sometimes it goes for margarita machines.

I just got a call from a friend in Ohio who is building a block girdle to support the engine that I am swapping into my new Skylark once I get it... The girdle is done now and all the machine work is completed to the block... I am sending him these kick *** rods and I am placing an order for some custom pistons... This engine should allow me to up the boost and make a reliable 1000-1200 HP+ if I ever push it that far. The engine in the car is on borrowed time even though it only has 50 miles on it LOL.

Pics of the girdle as it was being made, I am waiting for updated pics but here is the idea:

This HUGE girdle plate will secure the whole engine together and keep things from flexing when making BIG power... Under 700 HP these engines are fine without a girdle however after that, it is a time bomb without this extra support:

$ girdles ready to have the holes drilled:

The main caps were milled flat so the girdle sits on flush. This is precision milling work. The entire oil pan rail surface of the block was milled flat, as well as the main caps milled at the same height. 10 thou pre-load on the main caps is achieved by using shims. ARP studs and nuts are used throughout. Each oil pan bolt will now be replaced with studs that secure the girdle and then the oil pan with separate nuts.

Here is the crude prototype that was discarded once the trial and error was complete and the design finalized.

This info is going into my upcoming book call "Small Block Buick Performance":

Here are the BEEFY rods for the new engine compared to the rods that I used in my last engine build a few months ago... I am trying to build 2 engines a year to feed the beast.

The new rods are about 1/4" longer than stock spec so I can have a lighter shorter piston so that is good. They are rated for 1200 HP vs the ones on the top that are only good for about 700 HP.

Well I bought a 1971 Jeep Gladiator today! This is a Buick 350 powered 4x4 truck from factory! Being that I have a **** ton of Buick 350s I snagged it! It is stashed in my friends barn till I have time to add a lift kit and swap in a HOT Buick 350... It is an auto trans truck which is actually rare in these J-4000 trucks!

The first 3 pics are the actual truck and the last two are what I am shooting for with the build. The paint will be copied off of the 3rd pic and the stance from the 4th is about what I want. I will do the paint myself, and touch it up as needed after 4x4 excursions:

I don't see a parting line on the "beefy rods", so I'm guessing that they are "factory cracked" (not sure of the correct term for it)?

..and to think a couple of days ago, I thought you were pulling-back on projects.

With all these new toys, I think your gonna need a bigger garage. :3gears:

Thanks for the interest! :rocker:

The rods are forged and designed to handle the power. The cast rods as you were saying you can see the lines in them from where they were cast like these stockers:

Yes I do need another garage, we will build a large garage at the acreage on page 2 of this thread however not yet...

The Jeep will be a longer term project, I just needed to snag it as Buick 350 powered automatic 71 Gladiators are rare and this was only $700 with the running 350, th400, Dana 20 T case and Dana 44 front and dana 60 in rear. It will clean up nice and make for a low budget weekend fun truck out in the country.

I have been known to buy some random stuff but overall I am VERY thrifty with my money. I save money in many ways and spend big money on Buick parts...

I sold my Audi A4 this morning, now I have the full amount to buy the new Skylark without touching the bank accounts! Sealing the deal asap!

It isn't illegal to carry cash in this country but the cops think it is.
